Hello Marat, anybody home?

When I read my sports scores I was expecting to see Marat having won in three hard sets. Instead I see an article with "Marat" and "upset" listed right next to each other. AGAIN.

Those who are sick of Safin spiralling out of first and second rounds, raise your hands.

Looking for a rebound to glory in '03, like Pete in '93.

I'm getting a bit tired of all his 1st rd losses

so much talent and ability but so little thinking

Marat never goes out and demolishes anyone, all his wins are just scraping thru this yr.
then when things go wrong his head explodes

He should get on top early and stay on top not let others push him around.

all the commentators keep saying he's the most powerful player, but i see him getting pushed around by players like Rochus and Grosjean even.

Marat time to wake up and smell the coffee.

What happened to the Marat of 2000 when he won a Slam and like 7 Master Series?

Did he become rich and just not care anymore?
Did he become deflated by losing the race for #1 to Guga?

I don't get it.

It's pretty sad what had happened what Marat in these last matches.

Aren't all love stories destined to fail?

Im pretty sure that loss of the Champions Race for Guga had a row on it.
I mean, he had a perfect year, and still did not reach the number one in the end. It must have been a big deal mentally.
He had a good start of the year, if you take away the fact that he couldnt put it together to win a title. Instead of using the good ranking and good macthes to help on his confidence, it looks like the fact that he couldnt win tournaments worked on the opposite.
I just hope he can forget what happened before and just focus on NEXT YEAR, screw 2000, 2001 and 2002. Play his game and nothing more. When he can click that, he is gonna be on top of the game again...

wooden jesus, can i be saved? i spent all my money on a future grave.. ill cut you in on 20% of my future sins..

Looks like Marat's goal to be #1 at the end of the year will not come to fruition. (And deservedly so with the performance he has recently).

Thats what i was thinking. Obviously when Marat made the comment "i will end the year #1" he was thinkin in his head! But when he gets on the tennis court, his mind goes blank! ugh! Marat please get it together i would love to see your name as #1 rather than Hewitt no affence Hewitt fans.

See you next year Maraty!

I wish he had won 7 Masters but that was only 2 in 2000

The results are not unexpected. That is what you get witout a coach and proper scheduling. Winning a GS is much easier than defending it or winning another GS. In 2000, Marat was not sure if he had any GSs in him. Now he knows and everybody else knows it. He is expected to win almost every event he enters and that is a huge mental burden. Mental strenght was never a feature of Safin. He needs a lof of guidance both technical and mental. Maybe Vokov will be able to help Marat. And even if he will, I don't expect any improvements before someting like French Open next year.

Tons of talent, should be better results! The guy needs to pull it together metally and he could be top 3 for a long time!

He better work hard and get out of the One-Slam wonder group.
He does not deserves to be in that group!

Unhappy

I have no idea what's gotten into Marat, but it started somewhere around RG. He underestimated Ferrero. All credit to JC for playing such a good match, but I still believe Marat should have won that match. Then again at Wimbledon. In the first round he knew he had to give it all against Pioline, but somehow he didn't give it all in the second round. Inexplicable. THen he decided to take a few weeks off, but it didn't really pay off and now he plays a lot of tournaments again to get points for Shanhai.
I don't understand what he's up to, cause in 2000 he played a lot of tournaments and that was fine with him and now when he plays less tournaments in doesn't pay off.
I suggest next year he plays a lot of tournaments again and goes back to winning ways. If he just thinks back at 2000 and forgets about the pressure everything will be fine.
It's time to kick Hewitt of the topspot.

It is so sad to see someone like Marat, who should be just totally dominating tennis right now, playing like he is.

I agree with Hitman...that loss to Guga was a set back. But he can't still be dwelling on it two years later. He has to think of right now!

all? He's lost in the first rnd only twice this year - Cincy and Madrid. I think thats pretty amazing actually.

If Marat could just win a title, and get that winning feeling back again, i think he would be unstoppable.
