Miami R2: Tobias Kamke def. Del Potro 7-6(5) 6-1

Better player on the day won. Interesting rallies during the 1st set specially. Kamke played strategically correct with a good solid BH (both hit and sliced). Loved his DTL FHs to counter DelPo's CC ones, as well.

NID. I predicted Del Potro would mug Miami away to some random mug. THIS IS THE REAL 5TH SLAM. Not that Indian Wells.

So, I'm wondering, what was the injury today?

Re: Tobias Kamke def. Del Potro 7-6(5) 6-1

Only saw the 2nd set, but what a performance from Kamke!

Delpo looked a bit tired and disinterested, sure, but Kamke was too good.

JMDP, I know you had a tough week last week, but you gotta back those weeks up. He played Sunday in the IW finals, then had Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday off, 4 days off! Who saw the first set, was Delpo as tired and laissez-faire in the 1st as in the 2nd?

His wrist. Whenever he loses he has a wrist problem.

Re: Tobias Kamke def. Del Potro 7-6(5) 6-1

Dedicated to Lenders.

Could only watch patches of this match. Delpo wasn't playing well but Tobias played great, better perhaps than I ever saw him. Both his movement and ball striking today was excellent. Deserved the win.

Re: Tobias Kamke def. Del Potro 7-6(5) 6-1

Kamke played well but Delpo looked half interested in 1-st set and in a tank mode in second.

Re: Tobias Kamke def. Del Potro 7-6(5) 6-1

DelPo seemed off, but not really horrible; Kamke was excellent in the 2nd set, many great winners, deserved

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

Re: Tobias Kamke def. Del Potro 7-6(5) 6-1

Delpo looked all over the shop from the bits I saw second set, though Kamke's ball striking especially on the run was very slick.

Whether it was a tank, who knows, but JMDP's chances of a second Slam won't improve until he gets into the top 4 and avoids having to go through three of them in succession to do it. Ranking points were up for grabs here and he's wasted it.
