You're really missing the point. Take Djokovic for example. He is better hard court player. But the margins are not as big.
Djokovic leads 12-7 on hard. Djokovic wins 64% of the matches played on hard.
Nadal leads 13-3 on clay. Nadal wins 82% of the matches on clay.
They even played more on hardcourt than they didn on clay and Nadal still leads H2H. True, if you break it down by the % of torunaments played on clay and hard during a year, they played a higher % on clay.
Djokovic leads 13-9 outside clay. Still respectable.
Just because Nadal is more dominant on his favorite surface doesn't mean you should discard it. You'll never have a player dominate all his rivals on every surface. It's just silly.
Noone dominates Nadal on any surface the way he dominates EVERYONE on clay.
