Re: The Live ATP Rankings Thread

We can now see that only 285 points remain between Nadal and Ferrer. It's impressive how fast Nadal closed the gap, on the most unexpected moment.

Re: The Live ATP Rankings Thread

A lot is at stake, rankings wise, in the final.
If Nadal wins, he takes back the #4 in the rankings.
If Delpo wins, he reaches #6 in the rankings, his highest in a long time(since May 2010)
Also, the winner will become #2 in the race.

Melzer makes it to 42 with this win in Dallas, right below Davydenko and right above Stepanek.

Re: The Live ATP Rankings Thread

Now the #4 position for RG gets interesting.
Nadal is currently 115 points ahead of Ferrer. Once Miami points come off, he will drop to 65 points behind him. If Ferrer can defend his points(only 590 after Miami), it will very tough for Rafa to defend(2350) and put on more points over that. But, we definitely can't count Nadal out. A deep run for Ferrer in Miami will help help him a lot.

Gasquet is closing in on Tipsarevic for the #9 position. After Miami points come off, he is only 40 points behind.

Nishikori equals his career high of 15.

Both Monaco and GGL were forgiven by the ATP with their past ATP 500 penalties. The crappiest rule of the ATP once again in action.

I agree with you and he will surely get more points in Madrid.

Re: The Live ATP Rankings Thread

Just noticing how many points the Top 7 has managed to put away from Tsonga and the rest. Tsonga still remains 8th even if he wins Miami. And look how many gray withdrawn players this week. I count 8. That's a lot and a clear sign that putting in IW and Miami consecutively is tiresome to the players.

Re: The Live ATP Rankings Thread

Just a quick question: Would it be possible for you to do somethin like a 6-months theoretic ranking? I am always interested in how relatively short term rankings change in comparison to the real one...

That is too much work that will slow down the process of updating the actual ranking. Sorry.

Yup the same for Berdych who will stay #6 even if he wins Miami

Re: The Live ATP Rankings Thread

Haas up to #16, his highest ranking in the past 5 years(since Jan 2008). If he beats Simon, he will reach #14. If Simon beats Haas, he will overtake Almagro for #12.

Gasquet now the new #9. The way the are playing, it seems quite possible that he will be able to overtake Tsonga in the rankings.

Ferrer back to #2 in the Race.

If Murray wins Miami, he'll be 3200 points behind.

Murray defends 270 points from MC and Barcelona, so he could improve by 1230 points there. Djokovic could lose his 600 from MC. That would leave Murray 1370 behind. Since Djokovic defends only 180 in Madrid, even a win there would be insufficient for Murray. So the earliest possibility is Rome.

Re: The Live ATP Rankings Thread

Murray must definitely win Miami and significantly improve his clay court game. I think that there is not much he can do until Wimbledon though, despite Litotes' most optimistic scenario described above.

Murray isn't playing Barcelona this year.
