Re: The Live ATP Rankings Thread

I'm surprised that more hasn't been made of Nadal's (albeit slim) chances of snaring the number 2 ranking for US Open seedings. Murray losing to Berdych (or Robredo) in the quarter-finals and Nadal winning the event is unthinkable.

You're surprised the unthinkable don't get more attention?

Perhaps it was a freudian slip?

Re: The Live ATP Rankings Thread

Berdych is helping Rafa's cause . If Berdy eliminates Andy.
Getting No.2 rank and the #2 Seed for USO is on Rafa's racquet (He has to beat Roger, may be Berdy, Isner/Del Potro).

It is doable

If he does it, it will be one of the biggest news in the run up to US Open,

Rafa will thank Isner and Berdy (hopefully) for at least making it a theoretical possibility as of now.

Fan of the Game . Love to play and watch it .
Like all players . I have my favorites but I never insult others or their fan base

Murray is out. Nadal has the #2 seed in his own hands.

I think if Delpo wins the final against Nadal he'll be no5 instead of Berdych. Don't know if Berdych reaches the final and Delpo wins

If DelPo wins the Cincy title he'll be #5 next week. If not, Berdych will be.

^thanks !

I'm so confused
I want Delpo win his first M1000, but also want to Tomas for No. 5 and I think this is one of your best chances never (after defends SF USO)

Re: The Live ATP Rankings Thread

Now we can make an interesting world #1 scenario.

If Nadal wins USO, and Nole can't defend his final, Nadal becomes the new world number 1.

Re: The Live ATP Rankings Thread

Hello Marv,

Thanks for your response to my suggestion. After writing I read your information regarding the chart and realized the importance of both the background colour and the text colour. I'm an engineer teaching computer programming at a community college in Toronto. and besides I'm a busybody.

One way of imparting both types of information while keeping the legibiity of the information at its maximum is to provide another columnt before the name of the player. The backgorund colour of the box would be the same as the background colours you now use and for the same purpose. In the box you coldld place a letter A, B C etc signifying the infromation now imparted by the text colour.

A second minor suggestion regarding the dropped points section is to provide the dropped points information first, then the current tournament gain information next and finally the net impact last. Just seems a little easier to grasp which column is which. One other thought on that. I wonder if it wouldn't be even more informative if the potential gain points indicated the minimum the player will receive from the current tournament rather thatn the points already reached. For example in the Cinci tournament once the players reached the final each player would be given 600 points, as they're sure to get at least that, rather than the 360 they receive as semi-finalists.

Hope you don't mind these ideas. I wrote to the ATP with no rresponse suggesting that they show the dropped points for the current week before I discovered this site and your greatly useful table.

All the best,
Gabe

ps.s Please excuse typos as the font size is quite small and the text window stretches beyond the screen limits as I write.

Re: The Live ATP Rankings Thread

Is there a certain amount of rounds Novak needs to finish ahead of Nadal in order to keep his number one ranking? (Besides the scenario that Slasher1985 shared??)

Nole already has 3 more weeks ensured, which will leave him at 98 weeks at the end of USO. I believe neither of them would be playing anything till the week of Beijing/Tokyo. So if one of the above 3 scenarios happen, Nole will have 4 more weeks and thus will be tied with Nadal going into Shanghai.
From the "If Djokovic stays the No. 1 until October, he will overtake Nadal" thread, there also is a YE#1 thread which talks about possibilities for that.

It's very easy.

If Nadal doesn't make the USO final, Novak will keep the #1.
If Nadal makes the final, Nole needs to make the QF to keep the #1.
If Nadal wins the title, Novak needs to make the final to keep the #1.
