He's said before that all the tests show his tendon is healed - he's not risking it by playing (beyond the usual freak injury risk everyone has). What he can't control is the pain he has as a result of playing. It is normal to expect pain as the tendon gets used to competition but it's a case of how much it is and how much it limits his movement. So I don't think he thinks that playing on hard will mean he'll make his knee worse and jeapordise MC. He means that he can't say what level of movement he'll have at IW. It varies from day to day. He felt great in Mexico. Didn't feel good in Brazil and had more pain too. Won both but level of play was different.

Overall getting some more matches under his belt rather than taking a month long break till Monte Carlo not a bad thing. Losing to Murray or Novak etc. wouldn't be devastating at this stage. Plus he loves IW as a tournament so it'll probably help him mentally to be back in the swing of things playing the tournaments he always does.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. Remember 2011? His losses to Djokovic at IW/Miami conditioned him for the rest of the year when they met.

IMO this is a bad choice by Nadal. Whatever confidence he got against Ferrer will be gone if he meets Djokovic at IW/Miami where the Serb will win for sure.

Those losses were very different to a potential loss right now. Back then he was confident he was still by far the #1 player and fully expected to win. He was winning in both matches and then he crumbled in both (especially IW). Now he can go into the tournament without pressure, a loss won't have any impact I think.

Why are you so sure? If Isner could do it last year, why would it be impossible for Rafa? Anything is possible.

talk to my knees, my knees will tell you everything you need to know
Yes and Nadal has only been playing for the last couple of years.

Agree to some extent. Nadal and his "team" have every right to be cautious and somewhat preoccupied as to how his body reacts to competitive matches, but they draw too much attention to all this injury shit.

Compare to Del Potro, say, who was out for what...around a year? Do we hear endless shit about him playing through the pain and how his wrist is feeling? I know it's a different injury, but still.

Watch him play Miami too, and maybe doubles as well Anyway, the tournament will definitely be more interesting now When is the draw?

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

"My heart tells me I should continue competing, that I need to move on to the next tournament," he said.

changes his tune every 5 minutes, no problems playing the big bad evil HC events now but dull and his camp happy as long as..

-they are winning
-stringing everyone along the way

He crumbled?
He was beaten fair and square, he couldn't even keep up with Djokovic for god's sake. Don't twist facts.
