Rotterdam R2 WWW: Ernest Gulbis vs Juan Martin del Potro

Another tough match for Delpo against a Gulbis that seems to be playing very well at the moment. Of course it could be a routine win for JMDP if Gulbis has one of his usual stinkers, but if he's on it will be a very tough match. After all, their last match in LA 2011 ended in a Gulbis win in straights.

Hopefully Juan can pull through.

MTF games titles:

Suicide Tennis (5): Wimbledon 2014, World Tour Finals 2015, Madrid 2015, Kuala Lumpur 2014 and Metz 2015 - 1 Slam, 1 WTF, 1 Masters 1000, 2 ATP 250; 2 finals lost

Fill-in-the-Draw (3): US Open 2014, Rotterdam 2013 and Geneva 2015 - 1 Slam, 1 ATP 500 and 1 ATP 250

Tennis Tipping (3): Veneza and Todi 2014 (with vn01), Knoxville 2015 (with Redkop) - 3 challengers; 7 finals lost

Hopefully Ernests can pull through. More likely he won't though.

This SHOULD be fairly routine for JMDP, right?

If Gulbis pulls his best Safin impersonation, I wouldn't count on it Unfortunately he does that once in a blue moon.

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

Well... I hope Gulbis plays his best because it's enjoyable to watch. Head says Delpo in 2.
But what I really want is a great agressive 3-setter, whoever wins.

Re: Rotterdam R2 WWW: Ernest Gulbis vs Juan Martin del Potro

Del Potro should be to consistent for Gulbis. But we all know how good Gulbis can be, so if he will play at high level at least hour and half, he can win in straight sets, why not. But Delpo should be to consistent, i mean he should play powerfull from both sides without errors, while Gulbis might self-destruct

Re: Rotterdam R2 WWW: Ernest Gulbis vs Juan Martin del Potro

This is not going to be easy at all. del Potro was one of the players Gulbis beat the last time he won an ATP title. I'm picking Delpo in 3 but I can as easily see Gulbis winning.

Andy Murray: 2012 Olympic gold and silver medalist. US Open Champ. Wimbledon champ. Never been prouder of him.

The Brian Baker Story. Proof that truth is stranger than fiction... until Hollywood buys the rights and proceeds to keep screwing the script up.

DelPo should take this one.

Gulbis has tons more potential/skill than guys like Tomic or Dimitrov but never had much drive at all.

DelPo in two I think, but Gulbis if on form will stretch this to 3.

Gulbis is unpredictable. He can beat Delpo. It'd be much like what Chardy did at AO.

I'd say peak Gulbis= Gulbis in 2 tough sets. If mug Gulbis shows up, 2 easy sets Delpo...

LOL stop overhyping this MUG; this guy plays a good match from time to time, most of time he plays challenger level losing to even bigger mugs than him.

DelPo in two easy sets.

Re: Rotterdam R2 WWW: Ernest Gulbis vs Juan Martin del Potro

Could go either way, of course, depending on which Gulbis shows up, not just for the result but it would be either an amazing match to watch or an awful errorfest. With that said, i'm hoping to see an inspired Ernests at action but with Juan holding his own and prevailing in the end!

Does the fact that Delpo didn't commit to play DC this year and past performances with the ARG team influenced greatly in perhaps not liking him as much? I'm curious since you happen to like the best brand of attacking tennis, shotmaking, and we know Juan can be amazing to watch in that department when he is in the zone.
