Re: Nadal and Lefties

the lack of decent lefties is a reasonable argument, but explain to me this:

how come nadal loses to righties at a lower level? i.e Mayer, Rosol, Garcia-Lopez, Dodig, , Baghdatis (past his prime), Ferrero (on clay in 2008), Seppi, Mahut, Malisse, just to name a few.

so why are the righty randy losses more common than the lefty considering he is more of a worse match up for lefties?

Re: Nadal and Lefties

I tried to find people with a large discrepancy between % of matches won against lefties and righthanders. The biggest I found: Marcel Granollers. He has 43% against righthanders and 81% (!!) against lefthanders. Quite amazing.

Re: Nadal and Lefties

Much of this is because we don't have any other true superstar lefty, even though ironically Verdasco is just as good if not better than Rafa in every department except mentally... But even then, the other players are capable players, but Rafa is just too good. Not too many players will really beat him forehand to forehand and now for a lefty, most of their shots will go into Rafa's forehand.

Regardless, it isn't like Rafa is playing in a field against a McEnroe/Connors/Vilas-eqsue rivalry which Borg had to go through instead.

Federer / Haas / Safin / Gaudio / Kuerten / Youzhny / Nadal / Gonzalez / Ljubicic / Hewitt / Soderling / Wawrinka / Coria / Nalbandian / Kohlschreiber
