I will interpret this in a way that reinforces the opinion I already hold.

Piffle. He was saying this even before Nadal was close to Borg's record.

I would say that watching Borg play live was terrific. For me it was very exciting, but at the time the commenters went on about Borg being boring.

I think maybe it was Toni's youth that made him feel Borg was unbeatable. Certainly, I saw him beaten too many times.

he's right because borg played in the best clay era, there were so many legendary clay players he played alongside, whereas nadal only had federer to compete with

just look at this list: http://www.atpworldtour.com/Reliabil...reer-List.aspx

most of the guys in the top 10 come from borg's time

Re: Toni: "In terms of records Nadal's better than Borg but I think Borg is better"

It's so difficult to compare players of different decades, I dare to say many today's players would beat peak Borg with today's equipment, maybe even with '80s equipment, tennis develops all the time. So, it's best to compare a player to other players of his era. And I think Borg was better compared to his rivals than Rafa.

And when talking about records and title counts, Rafa has CGS and may end up with more slams. But Borg was the player with most GS titles in open era, Rafa has a long way to it. And as Lopez said, you can't fault him for not playing AO. So, the only big thing he didn't achieve was USO, but four finals isn't much worse than one title and one runner-up. And there's one thing with records; you want to break them. Who knows if Borg had had motivation to continue his career had there been somebody with 17 slams. Maybe he would've continued until he would've had 18 slams.

But who's greater then? If you think this is the Golden Era of tennis, you may say being 2nd greatest now is greater than being greatest in Borg's era. But only Borg is a GOAT candidate, he was the greatest in his era, Rafa isn't.

The aura of invincibility that Nadal has on clay, Borg also had but also at Wimbledon. Nadal is definitely more vulnerable to being beaten, I think this is fairly obvious to anyone who watches tennis. Both may have 11 majors but Laver also has 11 majors however no one would say all three are equal, across the board.

I think Nadal is the best on clay but Borg better overall. Nadal's big advantage is that he plays left handed. If Borg had been a lefty his only competition, McEnroe, would have been crushed.

No, Borg after all only tried to win three slams. 11 from three opportunities each year is much better than 11 from four opportunities each year. Divide 11 by three and multiply by four and you have 14 2/3.

Re: Toni: "In terms of records Nadal's better than Borg but I think Borg is better"

Nadal does not have a better record:

Each 11 GS.

Borg 2 y.e. indoor masters, but Nadal nil.

Nadal has a slightly better clay court and better hard court record.

Borg a much better grass court record and indoor record.

Borg won 64 titles. Nadal has 50 titles.

Nadal will retire ahead, but not ahead jet.

The current greatness league of active players in order of achievements to date (a factual comparison rather than fan biased assessment):

Federer 17 GS, 6 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.
Nadal 14 GS, 27 Master Series, 1 Olympic Gold.
Djokovic 9 GS, 4 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.

Re: Toni: "In terms of records Nadal's better than Borg but I think Borg is better"

tired of these 'who is better' threads

ASI Director-General Gautam Sengupta said the list of India's treasures held abroad was "too long to handle" and there was a need for a "diplomatic and legal campaign" for their restitution from institutions, including the British Museum, the Royal Collection and the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
