Vina Del Mar SF: (1) Rafa def (3) Chardy 6-2 6-2

Best performance of the week. Should roll to the title vs Zeballos.

Is there anyone in this forum who has doubts about who will be the winner in MonteCarlo and RG?

Great job Rafa, take the title now.

GOAT's back, hardly losing games. Haters back on suicide watch. Wasn't this Chardy supposed to be a big test? Think again. Can't touch this

Re: Vina Del Mar SF: (1) Rafa def (3) Chardy 6-2 6-2

That was a very poor match because of Chardy attitude: ballbashing, without any strategy on court, with lots of unforced errors,... He was like he didn't care about the score, only reacted a little bit on the fifth game of the second set, he was 0-40 to break Nadal to be 3-3 (fighting for the second set) and he missed some important balls and with the 4-2 he returned to his awful version. Very disappointing for people who paid for this match and for me, as I was awake at 2:30 am CET and didn't worth the time I have being here watching this match without sleeping.

Nadal was great with his forehand, not bad with his backhand and with his movility on court. The court at night seems more wet so the clay was a little bit better than in afternoon (in the afternoon the Viña del Mar clay seems too dry). He had some troubles with his serve, specially his first serve game of the match (3 double faults but he didn't get broken). We can't extract any serious conclusion here because there was no match.

Chardy was quite poor although Nadal was playing smart aggressive tennis at times not really letting Jeremy get too comfortable

it's just amusing some who swore that Nadal's form was a joke and that Jeremy might be able to beat him. not to say Nadal is anywhere near back to great form, but he's definitely not half bad

would be something if Hellabos or whatever made the final close

at any rate, good for the confidence. also awesome to see Nadal clutch in the big moments, his trademark, 5/5 in break points saved

I agree, this whole tournament has not said a lot about how great he is is going to be on clay again because the opponents have either been really hot/cold or stopped trying / seemed defeated. at any rate at least we've seen that Rafa still has some of his groove and fighting spirit so that's positive

I mean, I said if Chardy was on he could win, and I considered Nadal the favorite. Chardy was certainly not on.

Is it me, or is this clay really slow?

Yes Nadal has the positive attitude to be back at 100% soon (when I say soon I mean before Roland Garros, having reasonable chances to win another time in Montecarlo).

Expected destruction. I predicted 6-1, 6-2 but whatever. Good enough. Predictably, Chardy bashes his way into mindless errors If he cuts it out at least a few points here and there, it would have been more competitive.
