And Potro's 2008 was better than a lot of Ferrer's years in the tour.
Injuries are part of the game. And yes, he obviously has more years ahead of him, but we also know it's highly unlikely he will reach his peak again at Ferrer's age, so he only has 3 or 4 years left to fight his way back to those glorious times.

This blogger makes a great point:

Quote:
Always the bridesmaid: Man I am pretty sick of David Ferrer – he really sucks. Look, he might be an incredibly hard-working, honorable, sweet-as-hell guy who extracts optimum value from his limited skills but it doesn’t change the fact that he is the equivalent of a “pass-go-collect-200” for whichever top seed is lucky enough to be on his side of the draw. He has zero self-belief against the big guns and, even if he did, he doesn’t have the tools to act on it. Some find his consistency impressive. Personally, I’m tired of him showing up in semi after semi just so he can usher his opponent to the final. I’d much rather see a Del Potro, Tsonga, Berdych, or even a Tipsarevic up there. On their good days, they are much more capable of causing a stir than that nimrod Ferrer. (...) There is also a very talented supporting cast keeping them honest and who are more than capable of shaking them up in the latter stages of Slams if David Ferrer will just piss off.

A lot of his points about the Djokovic vs Murray rivalry are disputable at best (although he mostly gets it right), but he's spot on here, echoes the feelings of many perfectly

MTF games titles:

Suicide Tennis (5): Wimbledon 2014, World Tour Finals 2015, Madrid 2015, Kuala Lumpur 2014 and Metz 2015 - 1 Slam, 1 WTF, 1 Masters 1000, 2 ATP 250; 2 finals lost

Fill-in-the-Draw (3): US Open 2014, Rotterdam 2013 and Geneva 2015 - 1 Slam, 1 ATP 500 and 1 ATP 250

Tennis Tipping (3): Veneza and Todi 2014 (with vn01), Knoxville 2015 (with Redkop) - 3 challengers; 7 finals lost

You only conveniently forgot to mention that they met in Wimbledon, ie Jo's favourite surface and Ferrer's worst. That might have something to do with the result, just saying.

Yeah because Ferrer did not play a gazillion matches during the 2012 season, and is also not older than Berdych

Oh and you forgot Del Potro.

I don't actually mind this. I actually would quite like to see a Nadal vs Djokovic/Federer QF at RG and/or Wimbledon so hope he can retain it until then.

Del Potro and Tsonga yes.

Berdych can cause an upset against Federer and Murray but he bends over against Djokovic and Nadal worse than Ferrer.

Tipsarevic isn't a bigger threat than Ferrer. I'm sure Ferrer has more victories over the top 4 than Tipsarevic.

He has more wins than Wawrinka too yet we saw the difference in resistance offered to Novak at AO. And as we saw, Djokovic wasn't injured or in poor form, he ended up winning the tournaments with little problems afterwards. The difference is that Wawrinka (and others like Tipsy) has a peak level that can match the top players even in good form, Ferrer does not even if he is more consistent. He couldn't even dictate points on his service games against Novak, it was embarassing to see.

What frustrates people like the blogger I quoted is not that Ferrer will be routined by Novak/Federer in semis systematically, it's that there's no chance of anything else happening, he genuinely can't do any better so it's a foregone conclusion. Djokovic would have had a sterner challenge in the AO semis if you had picked a random top 50 player to play that match instead of Ferrer, odds are he'd have a big enough serve/strokes to get more games and that he could make it great and have a shot of winning if he played his best tennis ala Wawrinka.

Berdych actually beat Novak in a Slam semifinal, and in straights. Regardless of the result, you can always count on him to step up in those matches and at least make it a contest, not leave the court after an hour having won 5 games and offered 0 resistance,

Poor Ferrer has to bear the brunt of the vitriol from frustrated fans of ballbashers.

Folks, your butthurt is misplaced. Ferrer isn't stopping them from achieving anything.

Soooo....if Murray gets to No. 2, then Fed, Novak AND Nadal could all be on the same side at RG?

Congratulations, you're now a BYE to whomever of the top 3 is lucky enough to draw you in their half. By the way, great match against Djokovic at the AO.

Yes.

Federer defends 3045 points between now and Roland Garros.
Murray defends 1270.

Deduct points to defend from both their rankings and you get:

Federer - 7220
Murray - 7210

Now the fun begins ................

Hahahaha.... you really need a psychiatrist... majority of fans respects Ferrer and think he belongs where he is... FYI Majority isn't 3/10.... jealousy and bitterness is really big here...

Yes. Berdych did beat Nole at Wimbledon, but apart from that he was a disaster most of the matches they played and was routined too. That's the only time he beat him.

Ferrer doesn't do much better, but he caused him some trouble in the past on clay. Wawrinka played a fantastic match, but he was routined too most of his matches against Nole. Actually few people outisde the top 4 won't be routined by Djokovic (Delpo, Tsonga and not much else really).

It's the current courts's fault we don't have upsets and we have the same guys in the SF each time. Even if the #4 was someone else, he'd be routined too probably. Berdych can upset Fed/Murray but gets ruotined by Djokovic/Nadal. Tsonga or Del Potro can cause an upset, but any guy outside the TOP 10 would be rotuined too (the other guys in the top 10 too)
