MTF: How is the Australian Open viewed as a "grand slam"?

I posted this question on the "other" forum and I want to see a more refreshing perspective from this board.

Quote:
It's a great tournament all in all there's no denying that but there's just something lacking about it which I couldn't feel in Roland Garros, SW1 or in Flushing Meadows. Maybe its historical background and all those things but, I will never truly view it the same as with the three. The vibe I get is the same as in Miami. I'm not surprised some elitists refer to it as a MM slam.

If you want a clown slam, look no further than USO, with shitty scheduling, super saturday, tie breaks in 5th set and no roof over AA.

It's not 'viewed'. It is. If you are not sure, go google it. just another completely retarded thread . How is Wimbeldon 'viewed' as a GS ? whatever

The USO comes across as meaningless. The AO actually has some of the best resources.

“Does Djokovic resemble myself?” Agassi said. “No, he is even better. He defends really well, while I struggled more in that element of the game. Novak looks totally relaxed when defending, completely calm and the quality of his return is incredible. He is also extremely flexible in his game, which is facilitated by his ability to anticipate his rival’s moves. That is why I think he is a much more versatile player than I was and he is also much more athletic.”

Re: MTF: How is the Australian Open viewed as a "grand slam"?

Slam is a slam The organization and the conditions are top notch, and they will even continue to upgrade other stadiums with roofs, while USO still won't have a single one.

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

Re: MTF: How is the Australian Open viewed as a "grand slam"?

As for the quality of the tournament itself recently, 2009 and 2012 editions were by far the best slams of their respective years. 2010, 2011 and 2013 editions were terrible though, seems to be all or nothing with this one.

It's still equal to the others though

Re: MTF: How is the Australian Open viewed as a "grand slam"?

quality-wise has been the best GS of the past decade

but it still lack smth in terms of prestige and history, maybe because many top players used to snub it in the past
