2009 wasn't a choke, his fitness was just absurdly low at the time. He absolutely dominated Federer in the first 3 sets - Fed didn't even get a break point in 3 sets - but Fed somehow eeked out the second set in a tiebreak and eventually outlasted Delpo. It was a bit like the AO semifinal this year (Murray vs Fed) in terms of ascendency, only with Murray remaining strong for 5 sets and Delpo running out of gas.
Shame, since he'd definitely have beaten Soderling in the final, was only a few points away from a RG title. But that match made him improve his fitness, which proved crucial at USO so it was all good.
yup you're right, there were mitigating circumstances to that 2009 match so it doesn't really count as a choke
