Almagro out of Davis Cup, Spain suddenly vulnerable

Almagro out of Davis Cup

Quote:
MADRID -- Nicolas Almagro has withdrawn from Spain's Davis Cup first-round matches against Canada because of an injury.

The Spanish tennis federation said Saturday that Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, ranked 85th, will take Almagro's place in his debut for Spain's national team.

Media reports said Almagro, who reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, has a leg injury.

Garcia-Lopez joins fellow newcomer Albert Ramos and doubles team Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez for the series in Vancouver on Feb. 1-3.

This means the five-time champions will be without their top three players, with Rafael Nadal injured and David Ferrer sitting out the round.

With Nadal out, Ferrer led Spain to last year's final and lost to the Czech Republic.

Canada will be led by 15th-ranked Milos Raonic.
I think Granollers and GGL are likely to be the singles players, but any way Spain plays this, they are in serious trouble unless Nadal or Ferrer decides to save them

It's a shame because with the choke job of century, playing against Almagro was 100% in the bag. That beating he got in AO scars stronger men for life

If they're relying on Granollers as a leader (sad to realize he is the most experienced player), they're in deep trouble.

Andy Murray: 2012 Olympic gold and silver medalist. US Open Champ. Wimbledon champ. Never been prouder of him.

The Brian Baker Story. Proof that truth is stranger than fiction... until Hollywood buys the rights and proceeds to keep screwing the script up.

Well, as much as I would like to see Spain go far in Davis Cup, I hope Ferru does not step in to save them because I believe he needs rest badly.

More like mental injury. I doubt that Almagro will ever win a tennis match again.

Granollers could save Spain here, their fate is in his hands.

Spartan enough to bitchslap Federina in 8 out of 10 Grand slam meetings

A great chance for Canada to advance!

RAFAEL NADAL and GRIGOR DIMITROV

Rafa winning at least one slam in 10 consecutive years is the best achievement in Open Era tennis since Laver won all 4 Grand slam tournaments in the same year!

Don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion!

This is good news for Serbia's DC team, if Canada beats Spain, we will have an open route to the final.
That's if we can beat Belgium, with Tipsarevic out with injury, Djokovic said he'll play, but apart from his 2 points, we need 1 more and we have to rely on Troicki or our always vulnerable doubles.

Djokovic | Tipsarevic | Querrey
