The Jose Mourinho of tennis, there has never be a better hire in the history of tennis.

Yes. Respect for Lendl. Best coach on the tour currently. He summoned a choking and mentally unstable Murray to get ready for pain and Murray bowed. Lendl is on par with uncle Toni in my book.

It took some time but the results are obvious.

Lendl, what a great character, my favorite player of all time.

Mmmmmhhhhh.

So if Lendl is a Mou for Murray, then Roche would be a Guardiola for Fed?

I got to think about an equivalent for Nadal - Nadal relationship.

not really, I think his impact is overrated

murray was getting into slam finals way before he arrived, and he's doing the same now. Only difference is that murray is a few years older so he's at his very peak right now and naturally he's matured. As well as that, the competition around him has fallen a bit, federer is a few years older now and nadal is obviously not around to kick him out at the semi-final stage of tournaments like he usually does

Lendl - Mou, Fed - Sir Alex, Rafa - Guardiola

Re: Ivan Lendl the best coaching hire of all time?

Lendl has been instrumental, that has been obvious. And it´s good for the excitement of the game that Muzza managed to get over the bump in the road. Still, I can´t help but wonder what the result would have been if Lendl had been the trainer of Djokovic instead. That would have probably been the scariest and most ruthless player-coach duo of all time.

He'll be a wanted man once he and Murray part company a few years down the line.

No, he's just lucky he got to work with such a great player as Andy.

Imagine if Lendl had been Djokovic's coach since 2006? They probably would have discovered the gluten allergy a long time ago. What a scary combination.

Re: Ivan Lendl the best coaching hire of all time?

I believe this relationship only works so well, because they are both of similar ability and mentality. Lendl is instilling the inner warrior in Andy.

Plus their career trajectory is very similar.
