Re: 2013 Live Commentary

Del Bonis' shot selection is awful. Doesn't even know when to flatten out his shots.

It's like watching the exact same player I watched all those years ago who's hardly improved whatsoever.

He's more topspin-orientated than Del Potro, plus he's lefty. I still think he's got enough to be top 100 but not 50. He's a bit of an underachiever a bit like Bogdanovic was here.

Almost doesn't even seem like he can flatten out on the ball. Even some of his best winners in this match have been struck with considerable margin.

He's got great depth on his forehand, and even seems to be able to move it around well enough, but I haven't seen him flatten out on anything in spite of Rafa's high balls playing into his strike zone.

What I meant with this comparison is that he tries to play a big man game, but doesn't weapons to do so at all. His height/physique/movement make a more defensive style a no-go as well though, it's hard to see how he can be anything more than a low level ATP player/high level challenger.

How does Rafa look ? I mean in terms of his injury and movement.
Can we..as Rafa fans.. be slightly optimistic about the knee ?

He looks fine. In the early goings, he moved a bit precariously, and fell back behind the baseline more than usual, but things improved as he settled into the match. I'm not sure if it was nerves, his opponent, or his time to feel things out, but he ironed things out

Before long, he was moving around his backhand well to dictate with his deuce court forehand, he chased down some fine touch from Delboni, and his horizontal movement looked much improved.

I'm pretty sure this is the start of another strong clay court campaign.
