No disrespect, but what's the meaning of this?

I mean giving tennis players a sumo wrestling title, really?

No, it's not about "giving names". It's about borrwing (career) ranking criteria from Ozumo and applying them to open era tennis.

Cheers,

It's a nice idea and a variation on the standard Top-20, Top-30, etc... lists.

Re: Andy Murray two wins away from Yokozuna (Yokozuna-tennis updates 2013)

Novak Djokovic stopped both Ferrer's Ozeki run (in the semis) and Murray's Yokozuna run (in the final). Thus the Australian Open failed to bring any high level promotions, although ex-Ozeki Tomas Berdych is back at Sekiwake. The sanyaku line-up for the French Open is as follows:

Yokozuna: Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer (Dai), Rafael Nadal (Dai)
Ozeki: Andy Murray
Sekiwake: David Ferrer, Tomas Berdych
Komusubi: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

Mugray should be ranked as Maegashira when it comes to RG and clay in general.

Re: David Ferrer is the 30st Ozeki of the Open Era (Yokozuna-tennis updates 2013)

Dai-Yokozuna Rafael Nadal wins Roland Garros for the 8th time, but in his shade fellow Spaniard David Ferrer becomes the 30st Ozeki of the open era. The sanyaku line-up for the French Open is as follows:

Yokozuna: Rafael Nadal (Dai), Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer (Dai)
Ozeki: David Ferrer, Andy Murray (kadoban)
Sekiwake: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
Komusubi: Tomas Berdych (ex-Ozeki)

what's next? classifying the players according to military rank? I know, let's use Roman army titles. In that way we can replace the GOAT discussion for a Caesar discussion

So, Murray misses one slam due to injury, and suddenly Ferrer is East and Murray West and kadoban?

Disgusting!
