Re: Australian Open QF: (4) Ferrer d. (10) Almagro 4-6 4-6 7-5 7-6(4) 6-2

Agonizing match to watch Almagro is a mental midget. He played so well to get to the stage of serving for the match, and all 3 times he got tight. Suddenly his forehands barely passed the service line and he started to misfire on everything. He never was in the best of shape although he has improved that area in recent years, so it's no surprise he started cramping at the end of the fourth set. You have to beat Ferrer without expecting free points and Almagro didn't deliver the 3 times he had the chance to finish him off.

and a big LOL @ Ferrer getting pissed off at the prospect of losing to Almagro the yelling, raquet hitting and self-mutilation were quite a sight.

Re: Australian Open QF: (4) Ferrer d. (10) Almagro 4-6 4-6 7-5 7-6(4) 6-2

Ferrer played sooo horribly, but Almagro still managed to lose it. Ferrer was ultra-clutch the first time Almagro served for it, credit him for that one. But the other two Probably going to be choke of the year.

Enjoyed racquet breaking too. Good thing the ump didn't give a penalty for the second one, that might've changed the match

Ferrer must be much much better to trouble Djokovic or Berdych, this was abysmal, thank god Almagro is so mentally weak

Also, why is Ferrer's nose so red? Looks like Wawrinka

Quite simply one of the greatest chokes this sport has ever seen in a big stage. The fact that Ferrer was horrendously bad throughout it made it even more hilarious.

I think even Del Potro might have beaten him had he played like this against him...
You're proud of Ferrer for choking only ever slightly less than Almagro ?

It was proved once again that when an attacking shotmaker is making his shots there's nothing Ferrer can do, he can only rely on off days from these opponents, injuries, chokes...

Re: Australian Open QF: (4) Ferrer d. (10) Almagro 4-6 4-6 7-5 7-6(4) 6-2

and this is exactly why I can never be a fan of Ferrer. He relies too much on mistakes of others. If Almagro had even half of a brain, he would have won in straights.

That being said this was probably the worst match I've ever seen Ferrer play. Even before serving for it, Almagro was not THAT good, serving about 40% fs's and Ferrer, arguably one of the best returners on the tour, got to 3 bp's in total, converting none ofc.

Yeah Ferrer was abysmal in this match, which made the choke even more hilarious. Hopefully he can pull it together for the semi

lol, So basically you are saying that if a shotmaker is 100% against Ferrer that is the only way he will lose. Nice praise to Ferrer didn't expect that from you. they hit almost the same number of winner and UE before the 5th set. If Ferrer returned better this would have been easier.

Here's a question: If you're Javier Piles, do you have Ferrer rest tomorrow to be fresh for Djokovic/Berdych, or do you get him on court and make him hit 1000 backhands?

Red face Re: Australian Open QF: (4) Ferrer d. (10) Almagro 4-6 4-6 7-5 7-6(4) 6-2

Such an opportunity for Almagro. He had Ferru playing below his normal level, his backhand worked when he needed it,some spectacular shotmaking, more great winners in couple of games than Ferrer the whole match.

I still believe it wasn't only the mentality that lost him this,he had truly abysmal 1st serve percentage ,and yet still David's return was way subpar, and when he finally found it ,Nico's serving was still shit.

He would have been much more confident securing the break had he performed better on the serve.
