Re: AO R4:Novak Clutchovic def Stan 'da man' 1-6 7-5 6-4 6-7(5-7) 12-10

I actually gave both players a standing ovation in the living room.

As a sports junkie, I've watched thousands of hours of sports in my life, hoping for something special to happen. This match was special.

Tons of respect for both players! I could use a reminder of how beautiful sports can be!

17 (yes, yes, yes!) Slams! And counting....

Stan deserved it way more imo but he wasn't lucky.

Some of the technology that's legal, like the magic egg pod, is killing this sport for hardworking, fair minded guys like Wawrkinka. What a shame.
Why is it that after great matches where everyone should be buzzing about how great the sport is, there are always moronic posts like this?

Stan was on fire, I think Nole did the only thing possible, hang in there and weather the storm - and some storm it was

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

Because they were both playing aggressive tennis. Some of the rallies were amazing. Angles galore.

Anyone who didn't see this match missed out big time. Stan was hitting hard and flat off both wings, and disguising it so well that Djokovic didn't know what was going where. If he hadn't gone off the boil briefly in the second set / beginning of the 3rd, this would have been all over very quickly.

Djok wasn't at his best but Stan played the match of his life. Compelling match.

Nole was not amazing throughout but this is partially due to Wawrinka being so aggressive obviously gets you off balance.Stan played as well as I've ever seen so I think either A or B will happen, A: Novak will be tired and his form won't be entirely there and Berdych will steamroll him, or B: the battle with in form Wawrinka is just a great test of wills and Novak goes on to fight his way to another Australian Open. obvious options, but I don't see him as being in bad form like you imply. he's obviously not playing perfectly BUT there's no reason to think Djokovic won't be able to fight through Berdych. the odds that Berdych plays as well as Stan did in my mind are very low

Just unfair. Stan was clearly the better player. Unfortunate for him that he has certain mental issues, and Molina on the opposite side. Djokovic was a douche on that point showing at the wrong mark and acting all confident it was out.

Well the umpire thought it was out was is robbing in that, it shows you guys are just plain stupid, and in the first place you shouldn't actually ask the umpire for his opinion. And if Wawrinka challenged the point would have replayed because Djokovic got the ball back.
