raonic or tomic, who will have a better career?

raonic dec 1990 (22)
tomic oct 1992(20)
tomic 2 yrs younger to raonic

1 area of comparison- raonic seems to have played fed a bit tighter in his previous encounters, all the matches very close. tomic tonight did well enough to keep the match tight in the 1st two sets, but the 3rd he had a crucial lapse.

in area of serve, despite tomic's huge improvement, raonic's serve is the best on tour. its an amazing, effortless weapon. sampras like, as someone has said.

but in terms of overall baseline talent, tomic looks definitely the pick of the younger players.

so far raonic will face federer in R4. it will be interesting to compare his result vs tomics. he is 2 yrs older, but also broke onto the scene only 2 years ago in 2011.

he'll do good to snatch a tiebreak.

If every event is in Australia: Tomic

Fakervic played at 150% against Federer as usual.

Federer was the pioneer of first-strike all-court tennis. This is the real tennis and the beautiful game. Never forget the beauty of what was tennis. Nadull and Fakervic don't win tennis matches. They simply outlast their opponent with endless grinding and stamina. That is ugly. Beautiful tennis is gone now. Never forget the good days of real tennis.

SMH

Tomic is a much more talented and better player than that servebot clown. Tomic in that second set put down a higher level performance than Raonic ever will in his entire career.

The only reason he plays Fed so close is because he has that ridiculous overpowered serve. Also, Federer never played as a good against Raonic as he did against Tomic tonight.

I think Tomic has more variety, so him. Unconvinced either have the movement to be really gun, though.

Re: raonic or tomic, who will have a better career?

Let's see here:

Raonic is 22 yrs old, massive serve, useless returns, decent forehand, useless backhand good at one two serve forehand combo, useless at defense, movement mediocre

Tomic is 2 years younger at 20, good serve, decent return, very penetrating forehand that ppl have trouble dealing with, solid backhand, brilliant slice, mixes up plays well to offset opponent, can create a point aswell as blow ppl away, mediocre movement

Bernie has way more potential. Raonic is doomed to remain a servebot with nothing special while tomic will continue to develop a diverse and powerful game.

Bernard Tomic
Grigor Dimitrov
Richard Gasquet
Nick Kyrgios

Tomic and it won't even be close. Raonic is a servebot hence why he can push guys like Federer close. Tomic is the better player by far.

Re: raonic or tomic, who will have a better career?

Both of them will have mediocre careers. Tomic had a strong Wimbledon result awhile back but hasn't lived up to potentials at all. He's better than the one-dimensional servebot Raonic but both overall have not impressed and I see no bright futures for either of them. Best results will probably be at the smaller tournaments with maybe Tomic snagging 1 ATP 1000 series at most.

Raonic.

His ground game is coming along well, although not great the last few years it's been evidently improving. Won't be long before he's in the top 10 either.

Berdych | Murray | Tsonga | Monfils | Raonic | Soderling

Re: raonic or tomic, who will have a better career?

There is not even ground for comparison: apple with orange. The obvious answer is Milos. Anyone thinking objectively will see that (3 or 4 x 500 ATP finals) almost beating Fed, etc., 3 ATP titles, etc. You may think that he's a servebot, nothing wrong with that: Sampras was a servebot.
He's basically in the top 10 already: only about 200 pts short.
You may not like the guy but stop being silly and face the facts...

Federer, Raonic, Tsonga, Monfils, DelPo ...

You're funny. I really hope you're not serious.

If you are, then maybe you're way off in your analysis.

Tomic doesn't have a single penetrating groundstroke. Meanwhile, Raonic's forehand is huge. He's slow and returns poorly, but he's way more aggressive and has a finisher in his forehand.
