Re: raonic or tomic, who will have a better career?

not to mention, tomic's 2nd serve is another serious liability. raonic's ground game also is the area he needs to work on. raonic's 2nd delivery is quite good, he has a good 2nd serve, so u can't really attack it.

aus open so far
Men's Singles 2nd serve points won leaders
Rank Player Country Matches 2nd serve points won
1 N.Djokovic SRB 3 53 of 72 = 74 %
2 M.Raonic CAN 3 65 of 99 = 66 %

djoko clearly #1. thats why he is the best player currently, because he's got a good 2nd serve now, and a very powerful 1st ball, and hard to attack it. at full flight, djokovic has no weaknesses to exploit.

raonic is no.2.

No.

All this shows is that Djokovic has the upper hand when a rally ensues. It's the lazy man's method of judging the second serve itself.

Raonic's forehand alone is better than Tomug's entire game. You decide.

Are you kidding me? Djokovic's serve is pretty horrendous, it's the impeccable ground game that wins him points, not the second serve. When rally starts, you feel like he'll win the point almost every time. While Raonic's serve is completely is in another dimension (both second and first) compared to pretty much anyone in top 20. However his ground game and RoS is obviously that is holding him back from truly dominating.

If Djokovic had serve of Raonic's quality he would probably win CYGS for several years. Same if Raonic had Djokovic's RoS, movement and RoS.

Well, in their last match Niemininen was breaking Tomic almost to love a couple of times, and he isn't exactly known as a goat returner. Tomic could definitely serve better given his height and power.

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

Interesting to note the posters who prefer the stupid tennis player over the intelligent ones. I don't have any problem with posters who prefer Raonic, but the reasons given, like the above say quite a bit.

B-nard is slower than Sharapova and weaker than Serena... so obviously Raonic.

B-Nard
Nole
Borna

Re: raonic or tomic, who will have a better career?

Raonic has a lot of haters, that's for sure. The only reason that question is even being discussed is because of this tournament where Tomic is doing well, playing out of his mind in front of his public. Everywhere else would be a different story. The only way Tomic would have a career worth talking about would be if all tournaments were to be played in Australia.

Federer, Raonic, Tsonga, Monfils, DelPo ...

im pretty sure djokovic has had improvement in this area. he used to struggle with 2nd serve, its serviceable but i didn't say it was the best on tour. if he had raonic's 1st serve or 2nd serve, he would be the best player of all time. such a smooth action, effortless power, and he's got the height so its easy each time. but rarely is a tennis player perfect in every aspect, and you don't need to be to win slams.

Re: raonic or tomic, who will have a better career?

There are reports that Tomic has to be pulled out of bed by his Father to practice, which is not the case with Raonic. Nor is that the case with Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, or Murray. All those top players were self-motivated who surprised their families by their ambition, at which point the families became very supportive.

In Tomic's case, it seems the Dad is the main motivator, with the son just compliant --- or worse yet, coerced.

The better money is on the self-motivated.

You're an idiot, only thing that clown has that's better than Tomic is the serve (naturally, since he's just a servebot).

Bernie has way more potential. Raonic is doomed to remain a servebot with nothing special while tomic will continue to develop a diverse and powerful game.
Seriously ?! Decent Return ?!

He's basically in the top 10 already: only about 200 pts short.
