Re: AO 3R: Almagro sends Janowicz back to Poland 7-6 (3) 7-6 (4) 6-1

yeah, i also think he proved Bercy wasn't a one hit wonder, though it was definitely out of what he can regularly play (but mind he also reached after Q the R3 at Wimbledon, almost R4 as he blew mps there, then reached his first ATP QF in Moscow)

So far his biggest progress is he jumped from a guy who was ranked at 220 and at challenger peaking was 140, to the guy who is beating players who were not a long time ago ranked higher and being more experienced than him (Bolelli, Devvarman). He didn't fade - at least in first 2 sets, he gave a very good fight to the long time top15 player, who wasn't making many errors (if he did, it could have been a whole different match).

I would be worried if he had lost some of the earlier matches, but so far it looks positive for me.

I'm a bit disappointed for Jano but I'm happy that Almagro is through. The amount of hates Almagro gets makes me want to like him.

Not sure Almagro will beat Tipsarevic, though.

Too bad Jerzy, but all in all a good showing here. Now let´s see what he´ll do in the rest of the outdoor HC season.

The Almagro hate here is ridiculous!! Aggressive play style, great forehand, awesome backhand, very good serve, produces fantastic winners from both sides. Of course he's got some clear weaknesses (sometimes lazy footwork, ROS, etc) but his matches are usually very entertaining and he puts a lot of passion on court. I bet if he wasn't as vocal, the argument would be 'he's got a dull personality'... just hating for the sake of hating some of you.

Janowicz will keep improving, head up.

Yes, Janowicz lived up to his new ranking, won a great match against Devvarman, still pushed Almagro to 2 tie-breaks, that's better than I thought and a confirmation of his emergence in my eyes.

Almagro has a great shot to the QF. He defeated Tipsarevic in Roland-Garros in 3, and also he won a tight match recently in Abu Dhabi when he was only a substitute and Tipsa had already defeated Murray. And Tipsarevic looks very tired.

I wonder if this "Almugro" thing doesn't come from that match in Paris where he had Nadal on the ropes and couldn't convert.
It seems that being able or not to beat Nadal takes a huge place in the credit a player gets in this forum : see Rosol, Davydenko, Dodig on one side, Ferrer, Almagro and Troicki on the other side

I also like him and think he's quite a good guy.

Agree with all of this. Almagro other than the obvious top guys has some of the most punishing ground-strokes out there and deserves more respect.

Bending over to top players (Nadal in particular) is a big no-no around here

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

Unless you are Wawrinka, which doesn't count, he's been practically living in Noserer's back yard birdbath since the start of his career.

Agreed- Wawrinka is Fed's pet, Spanish Armada are Nadal's pets and Serbs all lay down and kiss Nole's feet, especially Troicki. This makes the Highlander's US Open title even more impressive as he has no British mugs in slam MDs to bare their arses for him
