First thing that came to my mind when I read that comparison as well. With Murray, it doesn't stop with variety. He also has the consistency and retrieval abilities to supplement his efforts at neutralizing Roger's game.

Oh, not to mention Murray's great ROS. Even bearing in mind how big Brands' serve is, Tomic responded to it rather poorly last night. I can't see him seriously threatening Roger's unless Fed undergoes a lapse.

Federer's precious 4th round streak is on the line here! Needless to say that this is one of the biggest matches of his career.

Unfortunately for him he's up against a real player now

Why is Rogi in 3 leading the poll? I thought I clearly stated only serious responses in the OP... MTF

Good one

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

Re: WWW AO RD 3: B-Nard Vs Rogi

Federer should not be bothered by Bernerd's playing style. But the kid might take a set here - I mean, if the GOAT kindly allows him to do it of course

The real final of the tournament IMO

Federer won't lose to anyone who plays "effortless" tennis like him. Maybe he'll be generous and let the Aussie crowd to have something to cheer on by gifting a close set but will slay Tomic easily overall.

Re: WWW AO RD 3: B-Nard Vs Rogi

I'm confident for Roger because he looks very fit.

But as this kind of fundamental elements is hardly ever mentioned in these threads, I just wanted to point that tomorrow will be a very cool day, completely different from the 39 degrees celsius 2 days ago : it will be 19 degrees celsius and 18 km/h wind when they start.

Then it will be much slower and there will probably be a lot of rallies.

Not sure who it favours but I think it's important because temperatures have a huge impact on the speed of the game in Australia and both players will have to adapt (it will also be an easier day session with 22 celsius maximum)

I think it's more Murray's ability to defend very well and Roger's stubbornness and bad form early on in their match-up (he started off with 6-2, a bit like with RN) that gives Murray the advantage in the H2H. But indeed, Murray has not won a single important meeting of the two (3 at GS level and 3 at the WTF) except Olympics and maybe those two Masters finals RF lost.

in their first matches, Federer went far too much to the net, and Murray took advantage with his passing-shots.

In their next matches, Fed was much more careful.

Tomic is not Murray of course but I think Tomic would love Fed to go a lot to the net.

Incidentally, Murray is also a horrible match-up for Tomic.
