Australian Open R1: Soeda d. (WC) Saville 6-7(4) 6-3 6-2 6-3

Luke went to Loserville*.

But it's good to see Soeda get a win (albeit with possibly the best possible first round draw, I know I've said it before but Soeda's draws are freakishly good on the whole). I'm glad Saville put in a reasonable score.

*Apologies, but it's bound to come up a lot in future losses.

Luke was up a break in set 4, not sure what happened after that, thought he was playing quite well, attacking well, putting pressure on Soeda, making him make errors.

Pretty sad when Channel 7 update this match (with the score at 6-7 6-3 6-2) and say that Soeda won the first two sets and has just won the match by winning the decider. So much fail in one sentence and of course no one corrects him afterwards.

Why so harsh on Saville, Joel?

RAFAEL NADAL and GRIGOR DIMITROV

Rafa winning at least one slam in 10 consecutive years is the best achievement in Open Era tennis since Laver won all 4 Grand slam tournaments in the same year!

Sorry, I just found it too tempting. Luke did alright as he's easily the youngest player in the draw.

Yeah, not a terrible scoreline. Plus, Soeda has been good as of late.

It's OK. We'll watch his career with great interest.

Unless they win the WC playoff, these Aussie guys shouldn't get MDWCs until they're atleast 20. And shouldn't get QWCs until 17.

Yeah he's won junior slams, but he's barely TOP 400.

Winning a set is about as good as Luke could have hoped for. Hopefully he comes back next year and be competitive.

that was brilliant from Sandy Roberts. I was waiting for the correction as well but it never came. Hamish McLachlan should deliver a few classics by the time the tournament is over as well.
