Coria and Gaudio's performances at TMC 2004

In my opinion (and I'm aware it might irritate some of the folks I care of here) it's been a disgrace!

It's one thing to have one bad loss, but being totally washed out 3 times out of 3 means you don't belong amongst the top 8.

Sure, both have their reasons (and good ones, too), and I don't doubt Coria's ability when he's healthy (when has that happened for the last time? Will it ever happen again?), but they shouldn't have turned up for the tournament as long as their form is so poor - we could use a super healthy Agassi or Nalbandian.

Gaudio won a Grand Slam so he was automatically in if his health permits and it did. Coria on the other hand, I don't know what to say about that.

Nalbandian wasn't healthy and neither was Andre. Unless you wanted to see Canas and Pim Pim playing with Robredo as an ALT, I'm not sure how that would be better

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

I agree with Naldo. Gaudio won a Grand Slam - he earned his right to be there. Agreed he played badly tonight against Hewitt but his other matches have been much better quality and he took Roger to a tough tie-break set remember. As for Coria - think you know my views on that one.

I didn't expect you to agree with me in the first place!

Agassi and Nalbandian might not have been 100% healthy but were both in a(very) good form and I'm sure they both wouldn't have rejected an invitation had one been sent.

I was under the impression that Nalbandian was recovering from injury and wouldn't have gone either way. Just admit it... it's your dream to see Pim Pim at the TMC.

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

An injured Coria that didn't play much at the end of year and still managed to qualify doesn't belong in the top 8?

A Grand Slam champion that came back from two sets down to one of the best clay courters in the world, and then reached a slew of legitimate finals doesn't belong in the top 8?

Sure, Coria and Gaudio didn't play to their ability here. But both were struggling mentally and physically.

Give 'em a break, guys.

It's more like a nightmare having a Pim Pim - Duckboy double impact....

Re: Coria and Gaudio's performances at TMC 2004

I've changed my point of view about Coria, he's not playing at his best, and all of us can agree with that, but he earned his places just as the rest of them. He's healthy, and he looks healthy, all he lacks is match practise and that's why he's in Houston now, to have it back. But he's been playing with a great attitude and that counts. I would have loved to see Cañas play, I'm sure he would have done great, but that didn't happen.
I'm watching Coria against Roddick now, and I have to say that even though he's not at his best, he's playing well and there are some very good points. He's improved a lot since Safin.

Re: Coria and Gaudio's performances at TMC 2004

I'm trying to remember if we saw threads like this when Ferrero played last year and got nearly whitewashed? He did win a set, but his performance wasn't much better, especially when you consider that it cost him number 1.

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

People piss and moan about players who don't give it their all, and they *still* piss and moan when you have a player that will give it their all even then they have no shot to win. Apparently you just can't please anybody.

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

Again, I don't deny Coria's potential, but right now he's far from competing with the top dogs.

I enjoy watching Glaudio's game, he definitely had a great run at Roland Garros, but he's not a top 8 material, no!

I don't question the issue legally, I know both earned their spots fair and square, I just think they shouldn't have turned up if they can't at least give a decent fight.

Re: Coria and Gaudio's performances at TMC 2004

hopefully a Spanish guy with mega $$$ can buy the TMC
then we can all laugh at Duck

the question will then be "Does Roddick deserve to be at the TMC" ????

Are you watching Coria's match now? I don't think he's doing that bad...and about Gaudio, he did play well against Federer, you can't judge him for just one match, even though it was terrible.
