I didn't watch the match but followed the livescoring, totally strange Monaco got beat so badly by a guy ranked what, 70 something? anyone watch it live? Juan injured or Kuznetsov just play great?

Monaco took an injury timeout in the 3rd set, but more histrionics from him than anything. Definitely gave a I don't give a fuck attitude out there.

Two breadsticks is not something to be proud of. Monaco blew it, but luckily for him, last year he was also eliminated in Round 1, so, not such a big deal.

He had a back injury, and was also nursing a hand injury he got during the off-season. He also seemed like he didn't care that much, he was going very quickly between points he wasn't even bouncing the ball anymore. IF you have watched him before he bounces the ball a lot. He should have just skipped the Australian Open and gave it to someone that is fit enough to play. He was contemplating on not playing in the AO.

Monaco seemed injured, but Kuznetsov has a lot of potential which has been known around these boards for a while. He was just unlucky with injuries. Last year was the first year he was not really interrupted with injury troubles and he managed to climb into the 70's. Great to see him and Donskoy getting their first Grand Slam main draw wins today, Future of Russian tennis is in the hand of these two.

It wasn't the greatest way to get a first ever GS match win though, it's not like Andrey is in a position to care about that. Congrats!

Kudos to Monaco for completing the match. The back pain looked quite bad at times.

Monaco fan, and was actually quite glad Kuznetsov won because Monaco seemed like he didn't really wanna be there from the word go.

I think he just wanted to get out there quick and didn't wanna retire like some others. His service games were going like a minute to a minute and a half and gets broken at 0.

Don't mind Monaco, have nothing against him. Kuznetsov needed this win a lot more, hopefully this can be his coming out tournament.
