I agree. Benneteau is a good player and it was unfortunate that Dimitrov got him in R1.

yeah, I mean you'd expect at least one really close set, it's like his heart has falled for Maria and his brain has turned into mush. not to say he was consistant in the past, but when you hit a final on first tournament of the year you'd expect more of a fight

Re: Ao R1:J.Benneteau straight-setted G.Dimitrov 6-4 6-2 6-4

shows what an idiot Dimitrov is if he thinks he can tank tournaments like Sydney. As I said in his Sydney result thread he is still of a ranking to be unseeded and his good start to the year winning 4 matches has now turned into a 3 match losing streak in the blink of an eye.

An expected journey. Where is that silly clown who bad repped me for predicting this result

This has got to hurt. The Sydney tank job completely derailed his momentum. I feel for the lad. He will learn. Tennis lost today!

couldn't really transfer from indoor to outdoor

pretty sick result, would have taken it better if he'd won at least a set..

I guess our hopes were too high after Brisbane and the lad isn't ready yet for too much more.

We'll wait. One more season max.

Always good to see dimugtrov lose. This clown has nothing what it takes be a champion, his hype is literally based around nothing but this is mtf where there seems to be a cult following for even the most talentless hacks out there.

Re: Ao R1:J.Benneteau straight-setted G.Dimitrov 6-4 6-2 6-4

Bennetau is always a solid player but the problem is he usually chokes. He tried to here but Dimitrov couldn't capitalise on the break points he had in the last game.

As for Dimitrov I don't see a huge difference in demeanour/form compared to his Sydney debacle. Sure he wasn't blatantly giving up here but the level of play was similarly poor. He really didn't seem to care much he was getting straight setted with ease in the first round of a slam. Sitting court side it's very apparent that his topspin backhand is still far too weak. The depth is consistently lacking and his inability to hit flat backhands or generate pace constantly gives him issues during neutral rallies. Interestingly he seemed hell bent on standing on the baseline and half volleying every backhand necessary. It's pretty obvious his backhand is not good enough for this style of play - basically any deep rally balls put him on the defence or forced an error. The issue today was compounded by the fact that he could barely get 50% of his slice backhands in today. Pretty distressing when you consider it's meant to be a safe shot used to cover up the deficiencies of his topspin backhand. Bennetau's backhand in contrast looked far more dangerous offensively. He also barely made a volley the entire match.
