Is this normal weather for Houston in November?

If yes, then I wonder why the ATP decided to have an outdoor tournament there at this time of the year.

If not - bad luck I guess.

because Houston gave the best offer $$$$$

and it is not abnormal for it to rain in Houston in November, contrary to what some other people have been saying.

Although there were rain delays during last year's final, they actually got lucky. I remember there was a bad storm the day after the final, with major flooding in the area. I wondered if the players had trouble getting out of Houston. Apparently drainage is not too good down there? One of the reasons why I decided not to go this year.

In fact, the day after 2003's final, there were several tornadoes within
the Houston city limits!

Re: Is this normal weather for Houston in November?

I lived in Houston for the last 4 years (not there anymore though) and I remember the weather being pretty nice. I would say a whole week with continuous rain like this is pretty unusual for this time of year in Houston. But I am no buff on the climate patterns. But I remember going home for thanksgiving some years and it was warm enough to not need a jacket.

The drainage is horrific and things flood quickly there because the city is essentially on a swamp, so the ground is already so saturated that when it rains hard in a short period of time, there's nowhere to go. I remember once, my friends and I went out to dinner on a Saturday night, when we went into the restaurant it was just srpinkling but by the time we left like an hour and a half later, the streets were flooding. it's just the way it is down there.

But my ultimate answer is that I would say this is atypical and unlucky.

One thing he bought the event, but the ATP should have insisted it is INDOORS, otherwise no matter how much $$$$

Any month in Houston can be a rainy month. I think historically, July is the least rainy month, but you wouldn't want to play tennis in July in Houston.

The place has a average rainfall of 40-50 inches a year. That means it rains A LOT all the time. I've lived through one November where it rained every day all day all month long. Some Novembers have been quite nice, but it usually turns chilly, i.e. 60 degrees in the day time around Thanksgiving and then it turns warm, i.e. in the 70's in December. The two really horrible rain months I remember are that one truly ghastly November, and then there was one January where in rained 20 inches in that one month.

I LOATHE indoor tennis. I think it is the most dreadful thing. I think that the European Indoor season should be canceled entirely and all the tournaments after the US Open be held in the Southern Hemisphere. Africa, South America, Australia, etc. all seem good places to have tournaments in September, October, and November. Then we can have lovely outdoor tennis.
