Does Andy Roddick have a good personality or not?

Hey

There are a lot of Roddick bashers around here and I must say I don't really like his game that much. But I want to know whether you think Andy has got a good personality (as far as you can tell). I think he does. He is a good sport, is kind to fans and has set up his own charity. He even refunded tickets one tournament, I believe. It is my opinion that he does a lot of great work. What do you think?

Honestly, I'm not even going to pretend that I can tell from what little we see of these guys

My only issues with Roddick have only ever been with his ugly game and the commentators jerking off to him, though. Anything else doesn't bother me.

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

Re: Does Andy Roddick have a good personality or not?

I know he has done a lot for charity and I respect that, but as a personality on court and off, I personally find him far too brash and abrasive for my own taste. But others may see that as being "fun and extrovert" - each to their own I guess.

I was really wondering about what people like you (Roddick 'haters') would say here

This is why he's so particularly popular in Houston, actually. When he played the clay-courts one year (either 2001 or 2002), his semifinal match was really badly rained out and to all the fans that stayed to watch his match when it was finally played, I think it was like around 30-50 fans, he bought them all tickets to the final the next day. And because it's the same people that go to the Houston events time after time because they're members of the club there, they've really grown to love him and follow him grow up and feel like there's a personal connection. When I was at the claycourts this past April people were still talking about this

Anyway, I think his personality is great and, like all my favorite players, I like how he shows his emotions on court. The only thing I don't like is the bull with the umps, I wish he would grow up and get away from that behavior. It's stupid and it makes him look like a jerk, and it doesn't help his game at all.

I'm not a "hater" so I don't see why anything that I have to say would be of interest. I haven't made a point of "bashing" Roddick in well over a year. Any criticism I have for him could also be said about Agassi (commentors jerking off) or Pim Pim (game), yet I don't see anybody calling me an Andre and Pim Pim hater.

Then again, some people around here think I'm a "Hewitt hater" too, so I shouldn't be surprised

I lack direction.

Re: Does Andy Roddick have a good personality or not?

I really can't stand Roddick's game and would gladly stick pins in myself rather than be forced to watch it... however from what I've seen of him in interviews etc I really can't fault him, he seems a nice guy, and the buying tickets for his fans thing as mentioned above seems applaudable.

His done some very questionable things on court but perhaps he is just very competetive, wouldnt have a clue about his personality.

Re: Does Andy Roddick have a good personality or not?

I applaud his "on camera" appreciation to his fans - and his charity work and all the "warm gushy stuff" he has done to publicly make a nice name for himself, but on the other side of the coin I have personally seen him too many times NOT give kids the time of day to stop for autographs (obviously during rest days and NOT while he was heading for matches - ie moments that the other guys gladly stop for kids for) - unfortunately he has looked like he hates doing this part of his job more than once when I have seen him. If he can act like Marat at these moments (always prepared to sign for every last fan) then maybe he will get my vote - but he still has to work on that area in my personal opinion I am afraid.

Re: Does Andy Roddick have a good personality or not?

I don't like his "on court" behavior, especially when he applauds his opponents. I don't know why, I just find it ridiculously snob and rude. Then, when he has had opportunities in a point and his opponent wins it, he looks so pissed as if his faults were the reason of that happening.

I couldn't say anything about his "off-court" personality, though. But it seems that he does more positive than negative things, like donations, being kind to his fans and all that stuff. So, he seems to be a nice guy.

Oh, just because he tops my "Bad" list doesn't mean I hate him or anything, I just don't like his game/"on-court" behavior...
