Australian Open Scheduling Idea

So I'm sure at this point most of us know about the absurd heat wave that is being experience Down Under right now.

With this in mind, I have this gut feeling that the tournament director will refuse to suspend play because of heat. I think after one disastrous day, he will realize something must be done.

Here's the plan:

The only way I can possibly see this working is if they were to start play around sunrise (6 AM roughly) and play until about 11 when the heat becomes unbearable. At that point play would be suspended until sunset around 7PM for the night session.

Obviously this will cause scheduling issues as all matches won't be able to fit in.

If they must, they can always play throughout the night on Rod Laver.

I mean, this sounds ridiculous and stupid and I bet some people on here will absolutely wreck me on this, but I feel like too many incidents will occur if they try to play in temperatures exceeding 50C

The heat problem is not as bad in Melbourne from what I've read.

Yes, tempreratures are not that high, from what i have seen on forecast, 32 or 33 degrees was the most in next 10 days or so.

If needed, they can shut the door even during the day, but it won´t be inevitable.

Roger Federer - Martin Klizan - Lukas Lacko - Milos Raonic - Fernando Verdasco

Dustin Brown - Nick Kyrgios - Norbert Gombos - Stanislas Wawrinka - Dominic Thiem

No need for this. It won't even be that hot this year, as the two above have said.

Re: Australian Open Scheduling Idea

The heat issues will be somewhere in the Australian Outback not in Melbourne. Conditions in Melbourne will be quite normal, definately not overly hot.

Australia is not just 1 city you know, when you hear it's going to be hot in Australia, please check to see if it's the part you're talking about before making a fool of yourself

10-day weather forecast in Melbourne : rather warm but nothing extraordinary :

it's other places of Australia which experience absurd heat.

PS : but nice to see an American speaking in celsius
