Good win for Bernie Wasnt as good as his other wins but its a good sign the way he handled himself after losing first set having SPs and all.

First 2 sets were competative. Niemenen lost concentration in the 3rd set. That last shot was completely odd.

The umpire was unusual, never seen or heard him before.

Lol, Nieminen squandered a couple of breaks in the first, Tomic was lucky to force a TB in the first place. Not a very high quality match, but good win for Tomic.

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

I don't understand Tomic. Yes he has lots of shots and is talented, but playing matches that passively for his movement is suicide against anyone good. I mean it isn't like he has Murray's movement, so can get away doing that.

Some strong minded coach needs to get a hold of Tomic, get him standing on the baseline and using his game better.

Alright Tomic, peak for Sydney, then have your level drop for the AO.

what does it mean to "squander breaks?" one person breaks then the other breaks back... there's so much bullshit in tennis analysis. It's not like players are clowning around on serve unless they are up a break (fed being the obvious exception)

That's what it means to squander a break.

It means that he had the lead twice iirc, though he couldn't maintain it, the point being the match wasn't "easy" nor the first set was "gifted" as OP would like to think

I agree. Horrid positioning most of the first two sets standing too far behind the baseline. He moved up much better in the third and as a result played good tennis. It was last years Tomic for the first set and a half.

Ha,
I forgot the context of OP being an asshole. This changes my interpretation of all subsequent posts.
