Re: Auckland QF: G.Monfils d. T.Haas 3-6 7-5 6-3

tommy had the better stats, but it's all about that bp conversion.

He had control of the match, but then had a brain fart service game in the 2nd with some bad luck. Broke back and idk what happened to him when he was trying to push it to a tiebreak.

Third set, he should've went down 0-2 but held from 0-40, and then he should've broken 0-40 at 3-3 only to throw that away.

Gael is still laboring, his athleticism and tommy's mental muggery won him this match.

this pretty sums up the match.
At least glad Tommy is still eager and is playing one of his best tennis.
This should be another phenomenal season, if he keeps this level of play, except mental meltdowns.

The only frustrating thing is he is like a broken record when it comes to losing these close matches. He just showed that in perth and this match gave me flashbacks of the washington final against dolgopolov. I love watching him play but he pisses me off that he doesn't want to seize it a lot of times.

You mean Monfils' serve won him the match. I lost my connection at around 3-3 in the third set but in that set if a point was on Monfils' serve it ended either on a serve winner on a 1st or second serve, a double fault or a really short rally won by Haas. Mostly serve winners and double faults...

His powerful serve bailed him out a ton, but I think his stretching out for usual winners and wide retrieval threw off the traditional tommy. He just made haas hit hat extra ball and it saved him a lot, the defense won him the 2nd set. You didn't see the 0-40 tommy choke. Gael couldn't buy a first serve and tommy was just trying to be too fine with his backhand. Then he just giftwrapped the break.

I see French pusher is getting back stronger, he might do well in Melbourne if he keeps it up like this.
