John Isner has withdrawn from #AusOpen 2013 with the knee injury that put him out of @HopmanCup. Quotes follow...

Qualies started already, so who's IN instead of Johny, some lucky loser?

Ah, disappointing.

Soon Djokovic will have to play the final against himself. Running back and forth jumping over the net

I know I shouldn't be happy with an injury and I don't mind Isner, but Benneteau is seeded!

I'm just glad Nishikori said he's feeling better and will play.

Horrible news Hope John gets well asap and returns strong

The silver lining is that Kei now gets the #16 seed. Hope he gets a good draw and a projected R16 vs Ferrer.

Re: Isner withdraws from Australian Open.

What a shame. I was hoping to see the tennis of S.Bot Isner V2.1 this AO

Fakervic played at 150% against Federer as usual.

Federer was the pioneer of first-strike all-court tennis. This is the real tennis and the beautiful game. Never forget the beauty of what was tennis. Nadull and Fakervic don't win tennis matches. They simply outlast their opponent with endless grinding and stamina. That is ugly. Beautiful tennis is gone now. Never forget the good days of real tennis.

Milos moves to the 13 seed. Wonder if Tsonga is going to play. If not Milos will be seeded 12 which would be huge

Re: Isner withdraws from Australian Open.

Tsonga is going to play it, but if the injury is not fully healed by then, he's likely to have to retire during the 1st match.

But no athlete had the year Novak Djokovic had. No athlete was as consistently superb, January through November. No athlete was as complete in all the aspects of his or her game (...) the best on all surfaces: indoors and out, hardcourt, clay, and grass. No athlete, week in and week out, faced the level of competition he did: men’s professional tennis, as gets said at the start of every big televised match—because it’s true—is in a golden age. (...) And while Federer had some year (2006), he accumulated only about half the A.T.P. point total Djokovic just amassed.

Re: Isner withdraws from Australian Open.

This would explain his Sydney performance, wonder why he even played it if it was this bad, sad.
