Re: Isner withdraws from Australian Open.

So just Sam Querrey and Mardy Fish? Is this the first time there's ever been a slam without an American in the top 20?

Didn't Fish withdraw, too?

Re: Isner withdraws from Australian Open.

Looking through my results. Americans have struggled since August of 2010, but until now have managed to have at least one player in every slam seeded in the top 10.

USO 2012 Isner (09)
WIM 2012 Fish (10)
FRO 2012 Isner (10)
AUO 2012 Fish (08)
USO 2011 Fish (08)
WIM 2011 Roddick (08)
FRO 2011 Fish (10)
AUO 2011 Roddick (08)
USO 2010 Roddick (09)
FRO 2008 Blake (07)
AUO 2002 Sampras (08)
AUO 1999 Agassi (05)
AUO 1992 Courier (02)
AUO 1991 Gilbert (07)!
FRO 1990 Agassi (02)
AUO 1990 McEnroe (04)
WIM 1990 McEnroe (04)
AUO 1989 McEnroe (07)
WIM 1989 McEnroe (05)
FRO 1989 Agassi (05)
FRO 1988 Mayotte (08)!
AUO 1988 PAUL ANNACONE (13)! That's the last time that there was no American ranked in the top 10 in a GS.

Yes, this is the first time there have been more than 12 players ranked in front of Americans attending at any one slam. The last time this happened was Annacone at 13 attending the Australian Open in 1988. McEnroe and Connors didn't show. If you count Lendl as American, then this is the first time ever, that there hasn't been an American, naturalized or otherwise, not in the top 10 at a slam since the Open era began.

Re: Isner withdraws from Australian Open.

If Querrey were to injure himself, there would be no seeded American

Matosevic, Hanescu, Lorenzi, Kukushkin, Chiudinelli, Gulbis, Bozoljac, Gabashvili, Hernych, Brown, Garcia-Lopez, Rosol, Zeballos, Istomin, Kohlschreiber, Tursunov, Robert, Gonzalez, Monaco, Thiem, Seppi

yes, but didn't Anderson ask to become American ? (as other southAfricans Curren and Kriek had done a long time ago) what's the news about that ? Anderson would replace Querrey as a seed in that case
