doesn't keep him from playing, but maybe does keep him from preparing?

A virus doesn`t allow him to prepare properly and with no matches,do u expect him to go there and play best of 5 set matches in the heat for his first event in 6 months.
It was probably either go and play some tuneup event and if he doesn`t make it then probably won`t go to AO.
In a way i think he could go there but i doubt he is the guy just to play and get a R2,R3 paycheck.

Big tennis Tv watcher since early 90`s

Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open

According to twitter uncle foni said it made no sense for his first tournament back to be best of 5 sets. So basically he doesn't think he has any chance of winning so he's not going to compete.

He doesn't need much prep to reach the SF here at least- slowasfuck HCs and poor opposition till the quarters.

Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open

I said from the start the stomach virus was a cover up. Saw this coming from a mile a way. How the fuck does a stomach virus, which usually lasts 5 days keep him out of a tournament over 2 weeks away?

In my opinion there is no way he is pulling out because of that. It's either the knee is still bothering him or he is mentally not ready to compete again. The thought of permanently damaging his knees combined with the lofty expectations of him upon his return to action may be overwhelming him a little....

Hopefully we learn more soon..
I don't want to spread rumours but my brother had told me last week-end (don't know from which source but my brother is a Nadal-fan) that Carlos Moya had said somewhere that he had practised with Nadal recently and his movement didn't look good at all, his practise seemed to be still limited.

Now, I would much prefer Nadal's team to tell precise news than me to spread rumours

mmmh. Some guy from the NY Times put this on twitter:

‏@christophclarey
Toni #Nadal: "It is simply not conceivable that his first event is a best of five sets event, he wouldn’t be ready for that." #tennis

yeah but then he'll just get steamrolled by djoko/fed/delpo/murray

no doubt he's trying to protect his H2H lead against those players, so he only plays when he's at his best or on a surface that's fully suited to him, some spartan he is
