I'm certain nobody wants to play that long if not necessary. And if you are a fan, you would notice that lately Nole has tried really hard to shorten points, even at the risk of losing crucial points at unfortunate time .

Supposedly the virus puts him out of Abu Dabi and Doha, and he pulls out of AO because he won't have any practice leading up to a big tournament with all 5-setters.

Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open

Nadal will have

Monte Carlo + Rome + French Open = 4000
Madrid was 180?
Miami + Indian Wells = 720

= 5000 points

On Murray

Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open

I gotta say, this stinks. He should've recovered from the virus by AO. What does he has to lose there? He'll lose last year's points anyway. Playing AO could've only damaged his reputation, and skipping AO because of that is a coward's decision. And I don't want to think about other reasons to skip AO.

I told you guys before. Rafa simply doesn't care about tennis as much as he did. It's only reasonable, for a millionaire such as himself.

his precious H2H record against all the other top guys

tbh he should retire altogether while he's ahead, its only a matter of time before he falls behind against djoko and delpo

Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open

Now he'll be at least 27 during his next Slam final. Federer was considered old by some when he won the French Open at that age.

Very disappointing. Hopefully he'll have a strong clay season at least. After that, he probably better skip hardcourt events now and then for the rest of his career.

I support Federer, Murray, Karlovic and some others.

Good luck trying to shorten a match where Murray is playing well.

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

He wouldn't lose those.
'My goal is not AD, it is not Doha, it is not AO.' Shock horror pulls out of all three.

Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open

I understand that every day of training is important at this level, but it does seem bizarre that a stomach virus a MONTH ahead of the AO would cause him to pull out. He hasn't competed in so long-why not just show up at the AO and see how it goes? What does he have to lose? I just have a feeling something else is going on...I'm not a fan at all but obviously his presence is missing from the sport and it will be good to have him back when he does return.

To be honest, I don't think they do.
