Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open

Anyone who believes the stomach virus story is as gullible as they come. All about the knees. Nothing you can do even if you rest and they don't respond. Dirk Nowitzki been dealing with it for 2 years in the NBA. Brandon Roy's career will be shortened because of knee issues and Andrew Bynum's career is in question with knee issues. Nadal won't be on tour but for a few more years if even that, and I don't think he's going to be the type of guy to keep marching himself out there if he can't compete at the highest of levels. It's no coincidence Monfils and Nadal are the ones experiencing the knee issues putting question marks on the rest of their careers.

Advancements in technology and the slowing down of all surfaces has made this possible with grueling rally after grueling rally dishing out punishment a human body cannot consistently take without breaking down. It's sad really.

Yes it's sad but that was what allowed nadal to win much more than he would've if the surfaces hadn't been homogeneised.

look at the 2009 AO semis and final. 2 back to back 5 set matches lasting +4 hours.

Yup it's been win-lose for him. He wouldn't have had anywhere near the career he has had, but also a lot less injury problems and greater career longevity.

Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open

nadal needs to hire steven spielberg to get this story right. even the uncle tony magic can't work on so many holes in the plot now.

Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open

It may take an ordinary person little time to recover from a virus and to resume engaging in ordinary activities. But the same may not be true for pro athletes.

He's probably so wiped out and unprepared that he'd be better off skipping the tournament altogether, which is what he's doing.

Probably much better for his confidence to start off w the smaller tournaments on more favorable surfaces.
