I have a feeling Murray may finally make it to the #1 spot this year if he can pull off some Masters 1000's. Also if he can get farther then Nole at RG, lost to him AO final, Win wimbeldon, get to final of US Open; I feel he has a chance to take out Nole, but it will be a struggle.
Murray is 5000 points behind Nole. He is not as consistent as Djokovic. Some miracle would need to happen for Murray to become #1, don't think it's gonna happen, 0.00001%.

see what I said ?

Nadal is even further and has all of his points to "defend" in the first part of the year contrary to Murray,

but they don't fear Murray at all : 0.00001% whereas they still fear Nadal !

is it reasonable ? no, imo, Murray is quite as dangerous as Nadal reasonably, at least nearly as dangerous, but memories from the past tend to be too much printed in people's minds who think that everything has been definitevely said.

Murray IS and ALWAYS WILL BE a mug who got a lucky Fedalwinnless slam because of wind. Murray is no threat to ANYONE. He is a mug and when the Top 4 bring their game, Murray has NO chance.

If he gets back to form in time, he'll dominate clay season again, and he has nothing to defend for the 2nd half of the year.

In-form Nadal is much more consistent than Murray, it's a no-brainier. Of course, what kind of form Nadal is going to have next year is unknown.

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

How is that a problem? If Murray and Nole would meet in the AO semifinal, and Murray would win and win the competition afterwards, the difference would shrink by 2560 points. After that, Djokovic has 1360 points to defend in IW-Miami, Murray only 610. With a good clay performance (I said it before that this would be the key), Murray can pull ahead. Remains to be seen, but 5000 points is not THAT much.

Re: Challenge: Predict the Top 8 of 2013 !

When talking about the top 8 at the end of 2013, how is current standing relevant?
It does not matter than Djokovic is X points ahead of Murray and Y ahead of Nadal or that Nadal has nothing to defend in the second half of the year.
At the end of year, it is only the points you have earned in 2013

Yup, defending is only relevant to establish whether anyone can capture #1 early or mid-year. At the end of the year is irrelevant of course.

more consistent ? well imo in last two years Murray's focus only was on one thing : winning a slam (and the Olympics), and he finally did it. He clearly showed that he didn't really care the rest, skipping at last minute, etc ...

Before that, Murray had great streaks in MS1000 tournaments (between mid-2008 and mid-2009 he won nearly all of the MS1000 tournaments on hardcourts).

I don't think it's so much about consistency, it's rather about being "better".

But Nadal's peak was reached in 2008 and he has physically declined since then, Murray's peak was reached last year and nothing says that he has reached his final peak yet imo as he rather improved in last years and has a lot of weapons in his arsenal and typically those players need time to find how to fully use them well in the end.

Anyway, I understand these arguments but I think Murray is very underrated in this forum, and Djokovic, who imo played his best tennis last year in the end (from Beijing) and the very-beginning of the year (in Australia), had incredibly tough matches against Murray in those "at his best" period last year.

I'm sure Djokovic himself doesn't underrate Murray as MTFers and especially Djokofans do.

The "wind" thing is bullshit : we're not talking here about a player who had one fluke run, we are talking of a multiple slam-finalist, multiple MS1000-winner and Olympics-winner.

Besides, of course I agree that the "defending" thing is irrelevant but it was brought by a Djoko-fan to minimize Murray. It seems to me that a lot of simili-arguments are made to minimize him here, the source of that is not reasonable imo, it's purely subjective : so many years laughing at Murray, and so many years being scared of Nadal left a deep subjective print
