Re: Rank the top 8 players from most offensive to most defensive

What's the point of this thread? We all know the playstyles of the top 8 don't we?

What's more important is that Nadal, Djokovic and to some extent Federer are aggressive at the right time/big points. That's the way to do it. You can overdo it (Tsonga) or just wait on the big points (Murray), but that's not getting it done.

Fed fans believe Fed pushing against Clownga, Hewitt & Roddick
is the same as bravely hitting winners against Djoker.
If their egos can deal with their own bullcrap, they don't need to brag about
their intelligence.

Re: Rank the top 8 players from most offensive to most defensive

I will try to guess who has the mind most naturally inclined to attacking and trying to shorten the point, independently from their qualities :

1. Tsonga
2. Federer
3. Berdych
4. Djokovic
5. Ferrer
6. Del Potro : hard to distinguish him and Ferrer, they have such different styles, but considering that I decided to priviledge the mind and that Ferrer has many qualities to defend whereas it's not the case for Del Po, clearly Ferrer's mind is more inclined to creating and attacking ;
7. Nadal
8. Murray

(note that Murray has a defensive mind but has many qualities to attack if he wants to, it's the opposite for Ferrer but here I priviledged the mind attitude)

Not even a Federer fan but that's pretty offensive.

This.

Delpo(and probably Federer) has the most efficient attacking game. That's something else. Players like Tsonga and Berdych don't know anything else than attacking so that's why I put them in the first two positions. Most of the times, this doesn't pay off for them. You have to know how to defend too.

Federer's "slicing and dicing" isn't offensive at all..Djokovic's slice backhand on the other hand, is so offensive it hurts my eyes in every single atrocious slice he manages to hit.

Also ahead of del Potro and Berdych

I think that Tsonga is a pretty clear 1, Federer a fairly clear 2 (though ballbashers can push him around at times), Berdych and del Potro a close 3/4, Ferrer and Djokovic a close 5/6, and Murray and Nadal a close 7/8

The fact that, out of those mentioned, Tsonga and Federer are the only ones who approach the net with regularity, should give you a clue.
