Re: The Best Player of 2012: Rafael Nadal

he wasn't injured during the AO final or at Madrid. He hasn't won a title off clay in, what is up to now, 2 years? 100% win ratio my arse. not only did he lose in Wimbledon right away to Rosol, he also got beat down by Kohlschreiber in Halle (even if you try and call it a tank it is still a loss). yes so he had the best clay court season of 2012, but that is nothing new, pointless thread. Trying to say he has had the best overall season is stupid.

He was above the competition in Rome and RG, that was it.

AO - beat Fed with his usual tacs, and then lost the final which admittedly could have fallen to his side but the performance itself wouldn't put him above the rest of the top players.

IW - lost to Fed after almost losing to Nalbandian.

Miami - got out with injury, we can't know what would have happened, so will be out of the equation.

MC - didn't face a top 8 until the final where he met Novak whose grandfather had just died.

Barcelona - won it but was outplayed by Ferrer (that talent God).

Madrid - slippery surface, lost after being in a good winning position.

Rome - played amazing and gave the competition no chance.

RG - played amazing and gave the competition no chance.

All in all, I put him above Roger and Novak in that period but not by much considering it's his best part of the tennis season.

winning a GS courtesy of an overnight rain delay and on a double fault, RG 2012 is beyond tainted in the history books

Re: The Best Player of 2012: Rafael Nadal

this 'if he was healthy' shit is funny- his physical game doesn't allow him to be 100% healthy all the time and even then he still seems capable of running down every ball. Regarding Rosol, if he'd survived the fifth set he'd have won Wimbledon again- second week mud is his turf and Fed would have choked against him again.

The best Spaniard of 2012: David Ferrer

So someone recently informed me that my sig was empty. Said I needed a life affirming motivational quote by a positive role model like Einstein or Oscar Wilde...

Great tip to stay fit and mobile: If you run up and down the stairs two steps at a time at least once daily, there will never come a time when you can't do it. Until of course one day you mistime a step, collapse and break all your bones... That would suck. But you had a good run.

Just watched the amazing race. They went to Manacor and played tennis in Nadal's home club. He wasn't there however.

Hes been through alot of injuries and a bunch of bullcrap. I never liked Uncle Toni's coaching and him at all. Uncle Toni was doing most of the talking about crazy shit. I dont think Rafa was meaning that Ivansevic and Pete sucked, its just that these two were serve and volleyers. Its not like he disrespected them. To be honest im not a fan of both, but i do like ivansevic because hes funny and creative whereas Pete is just boring to watch, thats why i prefer Agassi always over Pete anyday.

Re: The Best Player of 2012: Rafael Nadal

Hey, masterclass. I have one question for you: why do you say that the Australian Open is the least important major? is it because 40 years ago some players didn't bother to go, or because Novak won it this year?

For many years now all the top players go and play in Australia. And, since it's the first major of the year, most players are rested and haven't picked any injuries. So the Australian Open has actually a stronger field than the other majors. It's tougher to win it.

It's true that every player dreams with winning Wimbledon, because of its history and tradition, but in terms of how hard it is to win a grand slam, I can see no reason to say that one is more difficult than another. To say one of them is less important is, in my opinion, subjective judgement.

We can go back to substance of the thread. Are we doing this in order? So we'll have Ferrer and Berdych next?
