Novak will probably be #1 for quite some time.
The weeks at #1 has always been a very important stat.
I would say every year at #1 is worth about one slam.

Federer

Del Potro

For how long? At their peak Ljubicic and Blake could pretty much anyone on a given day anyway.

Even as in reinforcement of my thesis.

Do you have a problem with that?

The ONLY reason people call Federer's era "weak" is to discredit his achievements. You think from 2003-2006 commentators were calling the competition "weak?"

Here it is, the last refuge Fed fans have is in this thread...they can talk about Fed's accomplishments for days on end here, too bad we don't see them anymore in his match threads

some people do. people are people, they will judge you no matter what you accomplish. I guarantee you, that if somehow Djokovic wins next 2 CYGS, people will say, well there was nobody to stop him, Fed is old, Nadal is injured, Murray not as good, youngsters are clueless... weak era.

Bring back Sampars, Agassi, Edberg, S&V ... Navratilova and Evert, Graf and Seles ... give us back that time when we were in our 20s and beautiful ... ah life would be perfect

then we woke up old, divorced and miserable, stuck with Nole and Muzza . Thank God Tomic is coming

Bottom line is, no era is weak. Each era is strong for their own reasons. Federer's era was very strong, it's just that Fed was beyond dominating at that time. Things would have been different for his contemporaries if he weren't there. Likewise, you put 2004-2005 Fed in 2013 and he's probably toe to toe with Djokovic.

How is it a reinforcement if Pat Cash has always been a supporter of Djokovic? That's like saying Borg is the greatest ever on clay, even Chang says so. Does it lend credibility to an argument if a one time winner who was a fan of Borg's makes that statement? A reinforcement would be if a player highly critical of Borg made that statement.

So now Pat Cash is the biggest fan of Novak?

And ivanban is right, as everyone knows. Even Pat Cash said that the best djokovic he saw in 2011 is even better than peak Federer because he had to face much stronger opposition.
Very subjective and no objective way of making such an assessment of who was better at their peak. In the end, when retired, players are assessed on their full career of achievements.

The current greatness league of active players in order of achievements to date (a factual comparison rather than fan biased assessment):

Federer 17 GS, 6 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.
Nadal 14 GS, 27 Master Series, 1 Olympic Gold.
Djokovic 9 GS, 4 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.

Usually being number 1 follows winning GS titles, but feel all players would take an extra GS for every 52 weeks at number 1. Personally always feel the number 1 ranking is overated.

Lol at he weak era BS. There were players with big talent who played best tennis for short time, couple of years, one year or even only one lifetime tournament. They could even peak for only one spectacular match. So what that Fed faced Ljubicic, Blake, Baghdatis or Gonzales? They were playing absolutely amazing in those GS and thats how they got to finals.

Or like Rosol in a second round of Wimbledon. He played amazing there.
