Perhaps. Or perhaps Tomic will just go back to his own sleepy, lack-of-caring self once February hits. Only time will tell. If beating the world #1 doesn't serve as a motivation, though, not much will.
Djokovic played the same tournament last year, and did not lose a match. Unfortunately for Djokovic and Serbia, Ivanovic had to withdraw so Serbia did not get to win the tournament.
Djokovic would certainly be trying and I think it is unfair to suggest he would. It IS his first match after the year break though so lots of reasons not to be at his best. But not trying would not be one of those reasons.
