Re: Shot of the year (2012)

Chris Guccione's blocked forehand return winner in his Australian Open qualies tank to Schuettler. Obviously the necessary cameras haven't been invented yet to capture such a rapturous sight.

Too bad Federer did it when he's down a set point. After that point it became an anticlimax for him.

Re: Shot of the year (2012)

There's a thread for this already.

This isn't the shot of the year, but it's damn impressive, especially given the circumstances. His body is moving in the opposite direction of the shot, and the ball was fairly behind his prefered point of contact. Excellent improvision from Fed.

If not Gulbis' behind-the-back flicker, Gasquet's overhead return of an overhead still takes it for me.

Wouldn't even put it into top-10 of the year. What's so good about it? Surely not as good as Dimitrov..

This.

Backhand into the stands to give Nole set point again was

8th day of July 2012: 7-time Wimbledon champion!

Once upon a time there was a myth about strong and weak eras. On this glorious day the clownery was eventually unmasked: 30 y.o. past-prime daddy Fed became #1 once again in the supposed strong "Spartan" era with his rivals at their peak.
And they all lived happily ever after.
Long live King Federer!

Dimi's shot at Basel was pretty awesome iirc.

Re: Shot of the year (2012)

I can do that on the backhand side.

This is far from being the shot of the year, Dimitrov's is.

Re: Shot of the year (2012)

Hmmm that point was actually sort of a fail from Feds. Walks around for the forehand but hits it almost right in Djokovic's strike zone. Fed goes "Oh shit" like 95% of players to when they leave almost the entire court open like that and immediately starts the run.

Had Djokovic hit a simple shot behind Feds instead he'd probably wrongfooted him and even if Feds miracously got his racket on it he'd have a much harder backhand volley.

On the other hand Dimitrovs "epic point" is actually a similar mistake but Troicki is smarter than Djokovic and forces a much harder volley. Still somehow Dimitrov makes it
