People ragging out this comment are short minded. Even with his long injury lay off, Rafa is still the 4th favourite.

According to SportsBet:
Djokovic $2.50
Murray $3.75
Federer $6.50
Nadal $7.00
Tsonga, del Potro $21.00

I suspect Rafa will be dangerous come late January.

If he ahs a good preparation and he is fully fit, of course he will make at least SF at the AO. He is just so much better than the rest of the field.
I don't think he can challenges the top 3 yet, he needs more rhytm and matches for that.
But it's nonsense that he will be shit on his comeback.
I agree. It's not all physical with Nadal. He's got enough quality to be there in the later stages of a slam after such a long break. he won't forget how to play tennis all of a sudden. Beating the top guys for the titles is a different thing though.

I doubt he will be shit on his return, no matter how many haters wish otherwise. If he's going to suck at some point, it will most likely be against the top 3.

He won't be beating top players until the clay season.

Surprised there hasn't been more discussion around this. I can't see him being a factor at the Australian Open, wouldn't be surprised if he made a relatively early exit. Gradually he should find his rhythm, and the clay season will be a welcome boost. He's spent a significant period out of action though, he's wary of the hard courts and must also be concerned about recurrences. Not sure he'll be the same player to be honest.

In fightsport there are relatively young guys who are regarded as much older in terms of their fight mileage, and I can't help but think of this when it comes to Nadal.

however, nadal will ensure that frauderer does not win the AO, then graciously humble himself for djokovic and murray

Rafael Nadal will make the finals of Australia, losing to Djokovic or, tragically, Murray.

He did pretty well coming back from a lay-off in 2006. Beat Federer on Decoturf in Dubai in his 1st tournament back.

Now he'll come back at the beginning of the season and if he starts practicing this week, as planned, he'll have plenty of time to get in shape.
He also said he wants to feel 100% ready before stepping on court. Playing exhibition matches at the beginning should also be helpful.
Winning AO seems a bit too much, but I wish people would stop acting like he's a hard court mug.
Getting in shape isn't the issue, getting the matches under your belt is.. Not sure how you can say 2009 would ultimately be harder.. He had zero confidence against top players from August 2009 to April 2010... He had an extremely poor and obscure stat for his standards against top 10 players in that stretch. I mean he lost to Ljubicic and Roddick in IW/Miami after being up a set in each match, he lost to Davydenko after being up a set and serving for a match twice (?) if I remember correctly, he lost to Djokovic, Davydenko and Del Potro 3 times in a row each. If he struggled that bad, I sincerely doubt it will be easier for him this time around when he has ONLY gotten older and arguably slower.

Federer / Haas / Safin / Gaudio / Kuerten / Youzhny / Nadal / Gonzalez / Ljubicic / Hewitt / Soderling / Wawrinka / Coria / Nalbandian / Kohlschreiber

Re: How long will it take Nadal

He will make it deep into tournaments but lose to Djokovic/Murray/(even) Federer and have a few letdowns against ballbashers. Come clay season, he should be OK.

"Tough match?" World #3 Federer's ("greatest player to have ever played the game," you just said before rushing off the bathroom to change your underwear) H2H against World #58 Seppi is 6-0.

If it wasn't tough, Federer's victory would not be as glorious and godlike! Naturally, if Seppi and Isner were in Nadal's side of the draw, any victory that he managed to scrape out against these Tough Titans of Tennis would be pure luck!

Nadal will be close to top form but If he has to face Rosol in Melbourne he will fake injury, default and not play until Monte Carlo.
