Re: Is Jerzy Janowicz top 10 material??

He's not just another serve-bot...He's much more than that.

He moves very well, has great ground strokes, very good shot selection, capable of surprising the opponent with unexpected shots. Good hands.

Also, he has grit. He saved a MP against Murray and he came back having lost the first set against Tipsy. He shows his emotions on court and fights with everything.

I don't think we would see Jerzy giving up so completely as Benoit Paire did in Basel against Roger, or losing interest in winning a match like Tomic, or being totally star-struck as Goffin...

My feeling is that he'll do better than Raonic. Maybe I'm wrong...I'm happy to wait.

Last, but not least, I love his cockiness, his fist-pumping and his exhuberant celebrations after winning, then again, of course I would, wouldn't I?

Re: Is Jerzy Janowicz top 10 material??

at these posters saying Jerzy is nothing but a servebot...I have watched both of his matches the last two days and he has so much more variety and touch than Isner or Muglos will ever dream of....As the commentators stated repeatedly, he doesn't just go for outright winners all the time...He tries to construct the points and switch up the pace of the ball and has great hands at the net...His movement is excellent for a guy of his size which makes Isner look even more like a lumbering sloth Jerzy seems to be able to employ tactics and since he has never played any of these guys in the Top 30, it will be a work in progress to figure out which tactics are best against which players...Undoubtedly though, he knows he can't outhit from the baseline which is why it is good that he recognizes that he needs to throw in more variety, something Isner and Muglos would benefit from if they had brains

As far as him being a Top 10 player, I would love to see that happen but I think it is too early to tell...It will be very interesting to see what happens with him next year whereas he should be playing all main tour events and no Challengers...After such an amazing tournament here, it would be a shame if he had a slump at the beginning of the year or, god forbid, a horrible season like Donald Young had after a huge rise in the ranks...

If he continues to work hard and believe in his abilities, then the confidence will come and he could definitely be a Top 20 player...Confidence is key whereas several of the guys who have made it to the Top 10 arguably should not be there...Hopefully, he backs this amazing run up in 2013 and climbs the ranks

Cool it guys! The man was losing in challengers a month ago, beaten by Inigo Cervantes (????)
http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/P...wicz.aspx?t=pa
and now he's top-10 material?! Be real!

Federer, Raonic, Tsonga, Monfils, DelPo ...

I mean, he's great.

If he won't be top 10, who will be?

Re: Is Jerzy Janowicz top 10 material??

He could be, if he continues as he has done this week. But will he? He did quite well at Wimbledon and has won 3 Challengers this year, but his resume includes quite a few losses in qualifying and Challengers.

I'll make my mind up when I see how he starts next year. I'll be very surprised if he can keep up this level. I won't, however, be surprised, if he can do it a little more often and get a good ranking.

If he's not, who else will be in top ten in five years? honestly i can hardly come up with 10 young players that look remotely going to do anything big

Him and Dimitrov will be a new rivalry.

H2H is 1 - 1 from the juniors

Top 20, but may enter top 10 at some point.

The current greatness league of active players in order of achievements to date (a factual comparison rather than fan biased assessment):

Federer 17 GS, 6 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.
Nadal 14 GS, 27 Master Series, 1 Olympic Gold.
Djokovic 9 GS, 4 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.

Re: Is Jerzy Janowicz top 10 material??

When MTF bandwagons a player, that tells me and other reasonable tennis fans that player is severely overrated and won't accomplish much. So, the answer is no.

When MTF posters believe one thing, sane people need to think the opposite.

Re: Is Jerzy Janowicz top 10 material??

I don't really care whether he's top 10 material or not.

In terms of his overall game, personality and attitude, I like him more than any of the other so-called "young-guns": Dimitrov, Harrison, Paire, Nishikori, Raonic, Tomic, Dolgopolov, etc.

I hope he keeps playing...great fun.
