Paris R2 : Tsonga def. Benneteau, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(2)

This match was closer than expected...

Sadly I couldn't buy tickets for today so I didn't see this match. But I'm not really surprised that Benneteau was able to threaten Tsonga, because I saw him play yesterday against Troicki and he was very good, while Jo lately has been rather unimpressive.

I like Tsonga and I'm happy he wasn't eliminated because I'd like to see him play live in the next few days, but I'm a little disappointed for Benneteau.

Is it me or is Bercy playing slower than Monte Carlo and Miami combined?

Thought Benny played really well, but just came up short against a top 10 player once again. Tsonga just had enough flair to get the job done. But it's hard for Tsonga on these courts and I expect him to come undone should he face one of the arch defenders (Djokovic/Murray), and could even struggle against sub-par defenders (i.e. Granollers et al).

Yes, Koenig confirmed that Bercy is extremely slow.

I think this calls for a Tsong Good win, Benneteau is a fighter.

Yes, Bercy courts are slow, and very very high bouncing.

Didn't see the match, but doesn't bode well for Jo's chances this week (as expected), even though Julien is always capable of scaring people.

Thought Tsonga was going to lose to be honest. Surprising he even came through, let alone through a 3rd set TB. Not to mention he's had a terrible record against Jules in best of three matches.

tsonga is STILL playing atrociously

this has been going on for the last 3 tournaments in a row

his results are covering up the cracks, he is not playing well

cannon fodder at the year end championship at this rate

should be aiming for SF, possibly final if he was in form, but won't be getting anywhere with this level of play

Jo-Mugfried-Clownga should think about retirement if he's gonna struggle with journeymen on constant basis. This mindless ballbasher is past his prime and serve is not going to save him on slower surfaces. His backhand is one of the worst I've seen and his RoS is Isner quality. You simple can't operate on elite level with such weaknesses.

Re: Paris R2 : Tsonga def. Benneteau, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(2)

Expected, i said weeks ago with his form and current form of other players there is no way he can have as good indoor season like last year. This match just prooves that his form lately isn´t so good, even at this slow court, if he would play well he should not be broken by player like Julien - who is great player indoors, but not someone to break Tsonga - also my theory about his serve seems to be right- that he is going for more % and his numbers dropped comparing to last year - his serve doesn´t look so big anymore - btw this court is so slow that i feel like watching those Asian 250s again.. really French federation doing great job if they want their guy to win title - basically Tsonga is their only hope to win their home Master 1000 event - but they put slowest surface possible....

Hopefully this isn't Benny's last ever ATP match, but if it is he wen't down swinging like he always does.

Why would it be? This is like his best (2nd best?) YE rank, no?

He hasn't been 'good' for a while now, ever since that RG fiasco.

Yeah, if Clownga took one of those MPs, he would probably go on to lose to Noserer, who would then meet Nadal in final - and we all know how those go
