Re: WWW Most Improved Player of the Year?

Matosevic and Goffin are more suited as newcomers, Chardy I see more as a comeback player, Monaco is the only one who really fits the bill, he has been on tour for quite a while and has improved his results this year a lot

Goffin isn't an option, he's in the Newcomer Award poll though. And Matosevic is 27 and has been a pro since 2003 so he really isn't a newcomer. Chardy wouldn't be a comeback player too because he never really got injured, but rather he just slipped a bit down the rankings and came back up.

Re: WWW Most Improved Player of the Year?

Sorry, meant Soeda being a newcomer

As for Chardy, yeah he didn't get injured or whatever but I see it as him coming back from sucking(not saying he sucked but just not as good as he was), I see the most improved award as someone who floats around the same level for a while and then suddenly jumps to a much better ranking, unlike Chardy who dropped and this year just got back to and a little better than where he was before

As for Matosevic, yeah he's not young but you don't need to be young to be a newcomer, a newcomer is someone who is new to the tour, doesn't matter the age, Matosevic fits that bill, yes he has improved but I don't see this award as a someone who's not been on tour making it on tour award, I see it more as someone who's been on tour at the same level for a while and then suddenly jumped in the rankings, imo Monaco is the only option here that fits

Thought so

His ranking is insanely inflated imho, he didn't really make a big comeback at all, I don't think he should be a nominee for either.

I'm not just going by age, he turned pro in 2003 so he's been playing for 9 years. That's hardly a newcomer
As for Pico, he was at 14 in the world at one point and on his way up, but then he dropped and now he's only a bit higher so he hasn't made a huge change.

Re: WWW Most Improved Player of the Year?

Monaco. Getting back into form and finally cracking the top 10 is a big achievement for a player like him.

Someone here said Baker. He shouldn't be a nominee, let alone win this. He hasn't improved as he didn't have a ranking at the end of last year. Best comeback, yes, despite playing like utter shit recently. Most improved? No.

Newcomer to the tour regularly, this is te first year Matosevic has played tour events all year, that's my definition of a newcomer, newcomer to the atp events, not to pro tennis entirely

14 to 10 is still a bigger just than it seems though, bigger than what Chardy has done from his old career high to his new, even though is doesn't seem as big, nobody really fits this award great, but Monaco fits it the best

It's still hard to call that a newcomer imo.

And yeah, I do agree

Re: WWW Most Improved Player of the Year?

Matsoevic maybe, but the latter parts of the season have not been much improved from previous :0

Chardy could be a possibility but then again his last season was just poor, not as though he did anything too surprising this season

Monaco would be a poor win, he got some titles yeah but over relatively boring predictable fields and he's been someone who's been up in the top 30 for many years

<3 Roger Federer <3 David Ferrer <3 Juan Martin Del Potro <3 Ernest Gulbis <3

------------------------ <3 Richard Gasquet <3
