Shanghai QF: [1] Roger Federer cancels [10] Marin Cilic 6-3 6-4

A slow and unspectacular first set, a better tuned second set, the intensity of the match increased just before Federer choked the match at 6-3 5-3.

The crowd was more spectacular than the match though, such popularity Sparterer has in Shanghai, it's unbelievable.

Great stuff from both players as the second set passed the halfway point.

unnecessarily complicated ending, crowd loved it though.

Fed looks alright, but hardly great.

Poor match from both. Federer, in particular, is in no real form to challenge Murray

Another bad match by Fed. His chances tomorrow are slim.

Roger Federer | Benoît Paire| Stanislas Wawrinka | Nick Kyrgios

Good jog, Fed - but it has to be said, the World Nos 10 and 9 leave one with a feeling of some dismay

"When I'm asked, how is it to be around Federer, and what is he really like, I always reply, "I wish people could meet him when cameras or an audience aren't around, as he is one of the nicest people I have ever met when stringing on tour. " -- drakulie

I agree. And since Murray is in no form to challenge Federer, it should be exiting nonetheless.

Just horrible tennis. Federer will need to up his game significantly to challenge Djokovic (if he even gets there).

Syllich

After nervy match if you need a walkover just turn Cilic's number. It just shows how Murray's USO win was a huge fluke if at that particular tournament was only match in years where Cilic gave a fight to top players. Don't know which brain injury you have to suffer to be accepting being 1,98 and serving at 50% but must to be really bad

And for Fed i saw no improvements from yesterday. Has to step up big time to have a chance tomorrow but doubt this is going to happen

Re: Shanghai QF: World Nr. 1 Roger Federer def Marin Cilic 6-3 6-4

a lot of hate, but it's always been like that since 08 for Fed in masters. he never had a chance against the likes of you know who...and yet he managed to win some...

Q. Do you think you would have been able to play as well as you played today, or you think you would have pulled out from the game if it wasn't the Masters Cup final?

ROGER FEDERER: No, Roger Federer doesn't pull out. Otherwise he doesn't walk on court (smiling).

After losing to Nalbandian in 2005 TMC final...
