No, he doesn't. Non of the guys ranked 5 and lower has the ability to play at a high enough level to drop a top guy for 2-3 matches in a row. If Del Potro avoids choking, he just needs to stay clear of Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray and Ferrer. Then he can win.
Not a problem, if Del Potro fully overcomes his injuries he won't be ranked 5 or lower when the time comes
Del Potro is favourite against Ferrer on the RG clay. He can also beat Nadal there (personal opinion which I have held and would have loved to see tested since I first saw him in R1 against Nadal in 2007).
Del Potro can also beat Federer on clay (Roger's not getting any younger and he is likely to switch his concentration to grass, especially with the 3-week break from 2015) and Djokovic (their 2011 match was TIGHT and Djoker got somewhat saved by darkness).
Obviously, Del Potro needs to be in peak physical condition and have some luck with the conditions - sunny and somewhat hot like in 2009/2011 (but not AS hot) would be perfect for him, I think.
Fully agree with this
We both thought the same while watching Nadal vs Delpo in RG 2007
Of course in order to win another Slam, he needs to fully overcome his injuries in order to peak, fingers crossed he will.
Also, apart from Nole, is there any other currently active viable new RG champion apart from Delpo?
