Use your head, that has nothing to do with how many tournaments you necessarily play.

The real number that is hurting Tomic is this-

Federer - 17 tournaments played
Tomic - 25 tournaments played

Either way, you can't really blame Tomic, he has yet to be anywhere near his physical peak (probably mostly because he has yet to find the right discipline to focus on his physical game) and he doesn't have the experience yet to manage a good schedule. I mean when you're that young, you feel like you have enough energy to go around playing every tournament, and especially since he needs all the points/money he can get at this moment, he'll be trying to chase after tournaments for a while anyways.

Federer / Haas / Safin / Gaudio / Kuerten / Youzhny / Nadal / Gonzalez / Ljubicic / Hewitt / Soderling / Wawrinka / Coria / Nalbandian / Kohlschreiber

At the moment, he may not have the problem of defending many points next year. And when his ranking slides, he'll play the seeds instead of the other way round. Things are not going to get any easier for him.

Re: Tour Taking It's Toll on Tomic?

Tomic should stop whining and start winning some ATP tournaments (or make deep runs in 1000s, GS with some consistency) to back up all the hype. So far, he doesn't even have one ATP final to show for all the hype.

He's only spent 2 seasons on the tour and he's already complaining about the length?

maybe we can assume then he'll be one to retire early

He came out in his first match at a tournament around 10 times or so, no way you can blame physical game for that, he's 19 not 39

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

Traveling can take its toll on you but Tomic seems to compensate by scaling back on his physical training .

Maybe he should start winning matches again, then he won't have to complain about the tour's length, eh?

This.

He needs to fire his dad, and get real professional coach and professional trainers.

Re: Tour Taking It's Toll on Tomic?

Interesting that the quotes in the OP seem to link his mental frailty with any physical exhaustion he feels, or am I inferring incorrectly?

It's good that he is acknowledging he has issues mentally and this (he feels) prevents him from playing at his best during a game. Surely the next step is to get a new coach to try and improve that, if at all possible?
